People always glare at me like I'm a dick when I park on the sidewalk in front of the supermarket but after a similar situation years ago I don't care (and the shade is nice when its 118 degrees).

I see noobs bikes parked with the back wheel at the parking block all the time. If they get that front wheel out at the same place everyone's rear bumper is this will happen less often. It's your space - use all of it.
