Reading Wayne's Engine building book on Page 147 states (the solder method) "This method technically measures not the deck height, but the height to the top of the combustion chamber."
However he goes on in later paragraphs to refer to that measurement as deck height.
So, I think you can disregard everything I have written and just consider squish and deck as the same.
Just for the record; real deck height, and the squish height will most likely not be the same.
