Not sure, but you probably want one of the isolation type wiring converters (
Curt Circuit Protected Powered Converter w/ SMT Curt Wiring 56146), that have an additional battery connection. They sense the signal, rather than draw current from car taillights.
LED trailer lights are a great update, they have really dropped in price.
