The 997.1 Turbo (thru '09) is still a Mezger motor, like the 996 Turbo / GT3 / etc. In general they've had a very high level of reliability, given they're derived from endurance racing motor. The later 997.2 Turbos have a different motor which introduced DFI. The 997 (starting w/ 997.1) also introduced variable geometry turbos which was different from 996 Turbo.

Most good 997 Turbos seem to be selling in the $65-75K range these days and there's plenty available. There are some rare color or extremely low mileage ones that sell for $80K plus. The ones that are down in the $50-60K range tend to have high mileage (not inherently bad if car has been well maintained), or other stories (lots of mods, track time, accident or paintwork, etc).
