This is classic!
Reverse to the left of 1st & up is sometimes dangerous. Let's say you're sitting at a stop light in neutral and you're daydreaming (actual daydreaming, not checking your fone....) and the light turns green but you're not ready. You can rush to select 1st, pull too far/hard left and go up into reverse. I've done it a few times myself. Good thing I have cat-like reflexes and good riddance to that pile of crap G50............
