The leak, if in the tank, can be fixed. The tank has to be full with water before any welding of holes. It is advisable to to take it to a company that does that kind of welding.
There is also a vent tube for the tank. If the line is loose or cracked. The tank, when full, will leak out gas into the bottom of the luggage compartment floor, by the battery.
