Replacing gas tank-your input?

My 67-912 has a leak in the gas tank....small but strong enough when you fill the tank up, it emits a strong odor and just noticed small seepage at the bottom of the tank. Is there a drain plug located on the tank and if so where? and for those who purchased new tanks are there any fit issues with the tanks being sold, if so please name. I have heard about tanks being lined with substance, but at this point. The safest way is to go ahead and buy a new tank and associated part. Not interested in spending $1400 for a tank but the less expensive kind. ---Is there anything else I need to be concerned with? Thanks Gordon

if you don't see were it drains out then you likely also cant see were the gas line comes from. .... you may only have a leaking rubber hose from the tank .... there is a protective plate under the suspension and at the back of the tank ... take this "pan" (about a foot long and 2 feet wide) off to reveal this area.... bob

Thanks for the advice, I will pass it on to my mechanic. I do not have lift capability, but that is the place where it's seeping out....Hopefully, just need some new hoses and clamps versus buying a new tank! Happy Easter!

The leak, if in the tank, can be fixed. The tank has to be full with water before any welding of holes. It is advisable to to take it to a company that does that kind of welding.

There is also a vent tube for the tank. If the line is loose or cracked. The tank, when full, will leak out gas into the bottom of the luggage compartment floor, by the battery.

Thanks for the advice, I learned that early from my father! The vent tube is fine, but the leak is coming behind the skid plate, so I will attempt to take it off and see where it leads
