Why doesnt turbo inlet have filter?
The turbo on a 930 doesn't have a turbo air inlet filter...
Haven't seen it discussed much... Doesn't this cause long term issues with engine wear? Not much space to put on a filter either... |

A 930 has a filter box. Some guys put a k&n type right on the cis air meter. If efi you could put a filter on the turbo bit open air filters don’t work that way on a cis car. If you’re talking about a screen inline I guess you could do that. It might keep the odd bolt or washer out of the compressor wheel.

As Brandon said, the 930 does have a turbo air inlet filter, it just happens to be many feet away from the turbocharger.

I must be looking at it wrong?
Turbo inlet is by the left rear bumper, obviously. It’s completely uncovered. Inhaled air and blows into intercooler, which pressurized the intake. The intake is AFTER the air box. Ie, the turbo doesn’t pressurize the air box, but the manifold. So air sucked through the turbo never goes through an air filter... What am I missing here? If the turbo inhales a bunch of dirt as you skid off the track, that dirt goes straight in your intake. No? |

![]() Here is a 930 engine without intercooler. It shows exactly the same system beside the intercooler. Follow the intake from right to left, down and then back up to the center. The turbo draws from the fuel/air meter unit which draws from the air box. The the turbo blows into the intake, or intercooler if you have that.
