Paul's meltdown recovery fund - CANCELLED

All of us "lurkers" on this forum undoubtedly know of Paul Krasusky's recent catastrophe wherein his otherwise pristine and well kept 930 suffered what appears a serious oil pressure loss, resulting in very serious engine damage. Can you say total rebuild? Paul's personal situation in life with raising a family and looking at the long haul of putting them through formal education has shed a doubt on whether or not he will keep/repair, or just fire-sale his car.
need some advice...

I'm here to tell you that the word "fire" doesn't set well with me, but even more I cannot bear to see a valued, respected, and long time contributor to our madness even think of giving up the ghost on us. So, to that end, on Paul's behalf, I've set up a GoFundMe account whereby anyone who wishes to contribute to getting his rig back on the road can do so. No minimum donations required, and certainly no maximums on what you can give! Should the funds not be sufficient to cover where Paul feels he needs to be to make this work, then all funds will be returned to those who donated (probably minus a small transaction fee that you will incur when donating through the likes of PayPal, etc if I understand this correctly).

Please consider this out of the kindness of your hearts. I can say truly that when I was in this dire position and you all saved my ass, I had never in my life or any time since been more humbled by the generosity of this group.

Sounds like a great idea, Mark. I don't post or contribute as much as you guys and rely on you experts for advice, such as my frankenstein SC turbo endeavours.

It'd be my way to give back to guys like Paul and keep them involved with the Porsche community. I'll consider it a 'wisdom donation'.

I’m glad you started this Mark. IIRC it was Paul who got the ball rolling for the funding of your Phoenix which I was happy to contribute to.
Unfortunately, I was just laid off so, I’m not in a financial position to help monetarily (hopefully soon) but my parts offer certainly stands.
I know at the end of the day they’re just steel, rubber, leather etc. but they’re pretty special and this is a pretty special place. Gestures like this make it all the more so.
It’s clear that Paul’s put allot blood, sweat, tears and $$$ into his ride. Let’s all help him hold onto it

We’re in the midst of a global pandemic killing thousands of people and multiplying rapidly, many more are losing their jobs, the social order is becoming increasingly strained with each passing day, stock markets are collapsing around the world, most of the country has been ordered to stay at home for the next few weeks to stop the spread of the virus....and your go fund me account is for a buddy to rebuild an engine on a collector car. Not for people in dire need of being tested for the virus, or the healthcare they need, or for the food and supplies that are in very short supply or have completely run out, or for the hand sanitizer, gloves and masks that protect our healthcare workers that are virtually nowhere to be found at this point that are all on the front line of this crisis trying to help the infected while putting themselves at serious risk.

An engine rebuild go fund me. WOW!

I just received an email from the CEO of GoFundMe, stating that in the last few weeks there have been 22,000 new funds set up in support of COVID19 health care supply issues. I would encourage each and every one of us to contribute to one of these as you see fit. We are a community that has - by nature of our Porsche addiction - the liquid assets that we can spare for such emergencies as these.
Yes, a blown engine does not constitute an emergency any where near the scope of this global pandemic. But I care for those in this community just as much as I care for everyone and their susceptibility to this nasty bug. To wit, with my medical education in microbiology and medical technology, I have volunteered my time at the local hospital and clinic to help where I can, even at the risk to my 66 year old "at risk" body.
Yes, the timing is bad for this particular fund I set up, but I would encourage everyone to contribute to the cause of their choice, whether it's to help out one our members here, or to allocate your cash to a different cause.

JMS935, point taken. But here's another way of looking at it: this is a positive thing, a genuinely heart-warming bit of good energy among friends that happens to be occurring within this massive and existentially-threatening global situation.

Paul's original movement to help a fellow enthusiast who'd suffered a bad (material, not human) loss was quite remarkable. I know Paul locally and he is indeed a character, a true one-off; he burns bright and is a generous soul who's affected others to want to support him now. No one's pretending or inferring that this is a "buy Tiny Tim a new crutch" moment ... his friends are trying to allow him to retain and enjoy his (rather extreme) German hot rod. Wants, not needs, but they figure he's worth it.

We could all go sell our toys right now and donate the proceeds. I hope my job (automotive industry) remains safe such that I don't have to sell mine simply to put groceries on the table, but stranger things have happened.

Let's not come down harshly on an inherently generous and kind gesture, itself begat by the same. The COVID situation is coincidental. And maybe Mark and others already have made generous COVID donations, or their wives are busy sewing masks for local hospital doctors (mine is), or....whatever. Let's not squander any good energy/karma.

Paul’s always around to give encouragement and guidance where he can and he makes this place special. Glad I could help out just a little bit.

A little distraction is probably a good thing these days. The "go fund it" could consist of donated parts and services. Porsche parts probably aren't in too much demand about now anyway.
Pauley how about using your engine as a donor for an engine building class? That could get you over a big hurdle. The class could be a mechanic making a video they could sell.

Paul's meltdown recovery fund

No need to attack Mark. His intentions are good.

This is a place to talk about cars and escape the rest.

I can and will delete any debates, political, virus, ect. posts in the turbo area if this place turns into PARF or the new Marketplace.

I have a hard time finding fault in one person trying to help another regardless the situation or circumstances.

Very well said indeed.
I also applaud Brian’s suggestions. While I can’t afford to donate financially right now, I’m more than happy to give up any parts for the cause I can.
I’ve not met Paul personally, but, I have had several interactions with him. Both over the phone and online. A truly genuine dude. I’m 100% behind the cause regardless of this dam virus. This place would be worse off without him. And I suspect he’d be worse off without his hot rod.

Paul’s been a good guy around these parts even if you only just get the humor... I still struggle with that...LOL. But, if he lived down the block I’d be there getting my hands dirty for the cause. Since he’s a tad farther than a few blocks from me, I hoping my little donation could count for my missing hands. My time is worth far more than the donation, and if I’m willing to give time, I have no problem sending $$. It’s just about helping a bud... he has already done the same for others...

Thanks Mark for pulling this together, couldn’t think of a better person to spearhead the cause. Like these cars, brake hard for the course correction, but once she’s straightened out, mash that pedal and hold on tight!

I'm in!! However I 2nd the suggestion that the process be U Tube documented so we can all in the future 1) know what tools we need to buy 2) know what parts to send out and to what tolerances 3) be shown correct methods for measurement 4) correct assembly methods. In otherworld a complete do it yourself series.. Like Waynes book only in video form .

You guys are all a stellar group of addicts! AA for Porscheaholics, we all take care of each other. Someone should chronicle the 12 steps toward the rebuild
