Twin Turbo leak after shut down
Sorry my bad English. I’m from Norway.
I have a 3.4 Twin turbo engine in my 81 930. The oil return from the turbos goes into the same drip tank. This tank is maybe 0,3-0.5 Litres and has a breather on top(5cm long, thin pipe(1cm?). This tank have a line to a 12v scavenge pump. The issue Is that after shut down the oil is over the following hours leaking throu the breather on the top of the drip tank. Over the night maybe 0,5 litres leaks on the ground. Belive this is from the Turbos by gravity. The pump shuts down when the ignition is switched off. What to do? Bigger tank, higher/longer pipe from the breather, delay timer on pump? Thanks ![]() |

Do you have the ball in the banjobolt near thermostat? You could add a spring in there to help keeping the oil seepage if it comes from there.
Also check your oil level. It helps to keed it near the low limit.

I dont think a timer is any good in this scenario as its a mechanical scavenge pump

OP says 12v scavenge pump, but I agree this is treating the symptom not the root cause

Where does the electric scavenge pump empty? Oil is back flowing when the pump is not in operation. If oil is backing up via gravity feed then a check valve is needed.

Photos of how you have this plumbed would be helpful.
The 9mm ball bearing in the factory oil supply is critical, and our spring pressure check valve is better. Often, a check valve on the outlet of the electric pump is helpful, too, even if you have the pump run on a few seconds after shutdown (ex: delay relay or ECU-triggered).
