Selling 89 930 on BAT
I am going to list my car on BAT in a few weeks. This market is just crazy, let's see what I can get for it. I love the car but it's gotten to the point where I am worried about someone hitting me and instantly devaluing the car.
This market has positives for price appreciation but starts killing the hobby/enthusiast aspect. I remember my first 930 in 1996 it was an 86 930 coupe with 55k miles, I paid 25k. Those were the days. Someone backed into the flare, I just had it fixed and moved on. Thanks, Larry 1989 930 Coupe Last edited by ljpviper; 06-22-2021 at 12:53 AM.. |

Yeah, I was detailing the inside on Sunday. I just love the build on these cars. Everything is put together so well.
It's going to be hard to let her go. |

Looks very nice. Yes, the cash-in value proposition is tempting. I sold an '82 in 2014 during the ride up. The euphoric profit was a buzz until the money was spent, then separation anxiety set in lol. I found another '82 locally in 2019....not as nice but a decent buy. Just a personal preference thing, and perhaps a bit odd, but I like the 930 more than the 997.2 GT3 that replaced it, so back to the 930. If you like and can afford to keep the car, enjoy it for the reason you bought it and get an agreed value insurance policy. If $$$ is the driver and the car is the means to an end, good luck with your sale. Same goes for real estate is this crazy market. Outstanding profit is there for the taking in my neck of the woods (one house recently sold for 45% over asking!), but sell the house/property and then what? Cheers.

Yep, if I sell now sadly it will be my last 930. I can afford to keep it. If I does not sell I will just hang on to it. I have a bunch of performance parts in the garage that I never put on, so might just finally get to install them.
I might put it on PCAR Market first, seems BAT has a 4 week delay. Last edited by ljpviper; 06-22-2021 at 06:47 AM.. |

So here's a question for you guys.. If one has had their car for say 10 years and paid let's say $40k for it and now sells it for $80k,, Do you claim that as income ? Or if not how does one explain the money being deposited ??

Its technically a long term capital gain. But in theory you can offset expenses, assuming you have records. Insurance, personal property tax, registration expense, restoration/repair costs etc.

I certainly would not be selling my car because "I am worried about someone hitting me and instantly devaluing the car" but to each their own.

I paid 30K for mine in 06 with 31K miles. I still drive it like I paid 30K for it as well. I bought it to drive and enjoy. That will not change.

People pay $100k for a truck or SUV these days, what's the difference? Even wrecked and repaired your 930 will not depreciate at near the rate of these new vehicles. Just make sure you have appraised value on your insurance.

Helps me fix a price for mine, should I change my mind yet again and decide to sell (I'm vacillating on this). I have a few more miles, but very nice and unrestored factory paint, and my mods probably make a few more horses, so I'm guessing its a wash.

I don’t think the mods hurt the car but they definitely didn’t help it. The miles are OK but most 85-88 models at that price level have less. I think a realistic expectation for that car would have been 90-100. So at 120k I'd say it's an outlier, not an indicator. Last edited by patina; 07-21-2021 at 12:41 PM.. |
