Reverse switch pin issue
This is on my 78 930 outlaw
Has anyone had this issue? As you know, the pin needs to slide out to engage the reverse light switch. Mine doesn't move. Neutral, all forward gears and reverse gear have the pin in the same postion - always out. So the reverse lights are always on. Obviously an internal issue (maybe). But pull the engine and trans just to get the back-up lights to work?!!!!! Has to be another way Any one have ideas on this thanks, Mark

I can’t offer any help on this but since you’re on the subject, can the reverse switch be unscrewed and replaced or is there risk of the pin popping out? How about trans fluid level?

I replaced my switch due to broken terminals and had no issues with the pin. I didn’t know to even be concerned about it. But it sounds like the OP has his out already and has eyes on the pin and it’s not moving. Sounds internal. I’d run a toggle switch somewhere to turn them off/on before I’d drop the engine over this, and then address it next time you do a drop for a bigger reason.

The pin just slides in or out. It is completely removable. If it comes out when you remove the switch - no issue - just slides back in.

my pin is completely loose. Not hung up. Re-adjusted the shift coupling to see if reverse was not full engaged. No changes.
Thought of putting in a toggle switch under the dash - but I hate temp fixes

Can't the pins get worn down and become too short to create the needed contact? I recall some guys in the 911 forum used a drill bit in the 915 transmission as a replacement. But I'm not sure if the same bit would work in the 930 transmissions.
My backup lights don't operate either and I couldn't find a replacement pin anywhere. Seems like the part is NLA.

I have found the pin, over time wears and I have found some slightly shorter than others. I do not recall what the length should be. We did discover that changing out the pin itself resolved the problem.
