Small Displacement (Under 3.0L) Turbo Questions

Obviously the go-to turbo case is the 3L 930 case.

BUT

What if I wanted to build a 2.8L or something like that? Is it best to avoid a 2.7 Mag case and try to get my hands on a 2.4 case? If so, would any of the cases be fine? I dont know the

Just thinking outside the box (case ) here... its a slow Friday at work so my mind wandered haha

Even better would be an early aluminum 2.0L case, with all the later mods done to it. I've been collecting parts to do just that - hopefully I'll actually get to it someday lol.

Are the 2.2/2.4 cases not aluminum also?

Besides boring out the case to accept larger pistons (aiming for at least 90mm) what are mods would be needed? I figured avoiding the mag case was the most important piece

Only the early cases were aluminum and they are now about $8k and up. Later 2.0-2.7 were mag.

Early cases up through 68 1/2 or so (?) were aluminum. And yeah they're getting expensive unfortunately. There's one for sale now in the 911 classifieds, I think it's $6k.

For what it's worth, the motor in post #2 is a stock mag case 2.7. Wouldn't be my choice but done right and not over-stressed, I guess it can be accomplished.

Cooling is the key to doing it right (oil and intercooler), and it's where some bolt-on conversions fall short.
