newly acquired 930 key stuck prior to delivery

Hello folks,

i have managed to acquire a 930 turbo in moss green metallic with brown leather interior from california through pcarmarket just recently.

i left a set of unused spare keys with the previous owner for transport purposes which did manage to start the car without any issue, but once the car was placed in the trailer, the key refused to turn and the car could not be shut off.

the battery was disconnected in order to turn the vehicle off and the car is in transport with the key stuck in the ignition tumbler.

since the key is refusing to turn in either direction from the run position, once the vehicle arrives here in toronto in a few days, it is not possible to start the car normally after reconnecting the battery in order to park it in the garage with a slight incline.

does anyone have suggestions as to how the key can be removed from the ignition tumbler/switch without causing damage?

some wd40/oil/lock lubricant?

what about how to start the car just so that it can be parked into the garage and dealt with later? given the key is in the run position, is it possible to jump the starter from the battery to the fuse panel without causing any harm?

Congratulations on the 930, like the colour. I have never had a key get stuck like this but I would try to gently play with the key for a while and hopefully it will pull out, I assume you have a key that was used regularly. Hopefully somebody knows an easier way but I think it is possible to reach the starter and start by making contact between the main battery cable and solenoid terminal, it is a long way up beside the transmission though.

EDIT There is a possibility of exposing the starter wire from under the ignition switch and making a jumper wire to go from the cigarette lighter and piercing the starter solenoid wire, yellow I think.

Play with key and turn steering wheel back and forth to make sure ignition lock isn't holding it.

Sometimes the electrical part on the rear of the ignition switch gets jammed and will not let the key turn back. You might be able to remove that from behind without removing the entire ignition switch. If that is the issue the key will then turn freely, and you will be able to remove it.

Try asking this in the 911 Technical forum, you'll have about 10X the number of eyes looking at it. The ignition is the same as the Turbo.

You could hook up then battery, since the key in the run position you should able to bump start it in second gear!

just to wrap up this thread, the battery was connected to a trickle charger for a night and surprisingly next day the key released just like normal.

That just sucks! Here is what I did to remotely activate the starter when I had a fantom issue where she would not turn over. A simple wire jump, the wire that goes to the starter solenoid. Just a few minutes of your time to find and splice into the wire, then just bump it to power at the rear fuse box. Start reading at post 23 to get past all the Q&A. You will have to remove a bit of the vinyl wrapping around that wire harness to find the yellow wire. Note there are two yellow wires...tap into the larger of the two.
