I got distracted and was out of town for a couple of weeks so this project was on hold. I’m back now and think I pretty much have all the parts I need at this point. Funny how a couple seals I was planning to replace turned in to all of this maybe not such a “light” refresh

Ain't it something when you think, yeah, just a couple things to do to bring her back to tip top shape, just a couple grand. 10K+ later! Good progress even with the trip!

One of the bigger pieces of work is done. A whole new fuel system from tank to engine with new pumps, filter, tunnel lines, and all rubber lines (thanks to Len Cummings for the kit). Also put in new rear shocks. Decades of grime and corrosion to clean up on the underbody.

Nice! Fuel lines are so much easier with the engine out. If your old fuel pumps were working, be sure to keep them. Not sure what brand your new ones are, but many of them have a rep for early failure.

The new ones are Bosch but you can tell the old ones are built like tanks and mine were all working fine so I’ll keep them in storage. Just years of gas with ethanol in it and I was changing everything else it made sense.

That seems like an awful lot of work to do on a car with only 36,000 miles. That clutch was beat, must have been a hard 36k.

It hasn’t been a “hard” 36k… most of the work isn’t strictly necessary. Anyone who has been around these cars for a long time knows that a lot of it is “while I’m in there”. Sure I could replace a couple orings and slap it all back together and then have to do it again in a few months when something else leaks. Better to take care of it now and ensure it’s reliable. The things that are necessary are time based replacements. Rubber hoses, orings, seals, paper gaskets, etc. things that deteriorate with time, particularly on a car that isn’t driven much, and so they need to just be replaced. The clutch is interesting, like someone else said, there’s plenty of material but something probably got in the service hole and wedged its way in there. Wouldn’t have even known and replaced it if I wasn’t doing an “awful lot of work” to tear things down and make sure they’re in good shape.
