What K-Jet Fuel Distributor's will fit?

Righty, my 1980 SC K-Jet fuel distributor won't flow enough fuel for a turbo conversion running 0.5bar or above.

I can have the FD modified to flow 25% more but that's still a fair bit under 930 flow rate which is really what I need to be aiming for.

I have seen loads of post on the VW/Volvo forums where they just swap fuel distributors.
So question is can I put an FD on from another K-Jet car? They all look similar, but will they all just bolt right on. I notice the fuel line's in and out are sometimes in different locations but I guess that's just a case of making new fuel lines up.

Next question...which fuel distributors will provide enough flow. 930 would but way to pricey. Porsche 928, Mercedes v8 (block off two of the fuel lines).

This does seem to be a never ending process in getting the SC K-Jet to work adequately with a turbo setup.
Starting to look at EFI setups now too, shame having come this far but it's one problem after the next and more $$$ each time

As a guide to flow rates :

930 turbo fuel distributor flows 300 cc/min.
1980 sc fuel distributor flows 180 cc/min.

This will be for EU engine's.

My FD can be modified to flow between 230 to 260 cc/min.

all 6cyl and v8 fuel heads have the same mounting bolt pattern so can be swapped around at will

the following quoted post contains the only flow comparison data I've seen so might be helpful

Do you have the 037 model?
Do a flow test. Itīs very easy especially for you with your flexible fuel hoses and you donīt have to include the injectors, just put the hoses only in bottles, start your pumps and push the air flow meter down for 60 sec and then measure.

Fuel req. per injector:

6 cyl 300 bhp fuel req. 250cc +/- 10% = 225-275cc/min/cyl

6 cyl 350 bhp fuel req. 292cc +/- 10% = 263-321cc/min/cyl

If you wish to retain CIS the best thing to do (in my opinion) is to install a complete 930 CIS.
There are many issues that you will run up against if adapting your 911 CIS to handle modified 930 turbo power levels, the result being you replace everything and end up with a 930 system.
Yes any fuel distributor will physically fit in the hole but you cannot hook it up and it will not operate properly. The system pressure and flow rates are completely different.
At minimum you will need to replace the WUR, FD, and add or replace the fuel pump. If expanding beyond CIS you can go digi-CIS or EFI.

Steve, thanks for that info it helps to see all those flow rates for the different FD's.
I will speak to Mike at Dkubus again seeing as he know's his Merc's and see if he knows the right Mercedes v8 FD to use.

Rarly, thanks for the input, I'm running FrankenCIS DWUR at present and will be replacing my stock fuel pump with a Bosch 044 this weekend. I realize I will most likely need to add a second 044 later.
I can set the system pressure by shimming the FD correctly and if I purchase an FD with at least 270-300 cc/min that should flow ample fuel.
The fuel line to and from the v8 FD's are in different positions to my SC FD so I'll need to get some lines made up to fit.
As far as I know that should be it but let me know if you think i'm missing something.
Hopefully its then just a case of dialing it all in then.

In my turbo build thread I did show an 2.7 SC engine running twin turbo's. He installed a 928 FD to handle the fueling. The extra two fuel lines he used for even extra fueling at WOT just before the throttle body, but I'll just block them off.

Had a look today whilst fitting the 044 pump, my FD is a 0 438 100 031 (which is 78-79 and until June 80) After that it was changed to a 0-438-100-097

I found an old post from 'Dr J' when he supercharged his SC, he used a euro 81/82 FD with metal fuel lines and he had no issues with fuel shortage with 6-7psi boost, although he said he started
with a bosch 0 438 100 031 FD, same as mine and had fueling issues.

Started putting a list together of the Bosch FD numbers with what they fit and the flow rates, please feel free to chip in with missing info or correct me :

Just had a message form 'Dr J' about his setup and test flow results.

He was getting 170cc/min on his original FD which sounds about right as the factory figure is 180cc/min taking in account possible wear and tear on the pump and any voltage drop to the pump etc. Then when he changed the FD, retested he got 220cc/min.
He also changed to metal fuel lines as he may want to up the system pressure later, sounds like a good plan to me.

He hasn't tested his setup to redline yet so there maybe still an area of high rpm that could go lean but it did fix the original problem of being lean on boost though most of the rev range.

So if his new FD flowing 220cc/min can support 0.5bar and a turbo FD flows 276cc/min running 0.8bar then getting my FD modded to flow 230-260cc/min should be good enough as I can only run 0.6 or maybe 0.7bar anyway.

I'll need to speak with KMI again and see how sure they are about what flow they can obtain Home Page

I'll also shoot CISFLOWTECH a mail and see what they recommend http://www.cisflowtech.com/

Hey! Do you still have this list?
I'm tuning the K-jet on my Volvo 240 GLT and considering changing to a Porsche fuel metering unit.
Would love to have the list and continue adding numbers to it =)
