You guys are giving me bad ideas for my Ur-quattro resto project http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat1.gif
|
So......... what's the latest on this rig????? it's got to be getting to done.
|
Body will be completed with the GTR tail by end of April beginning of May, should be picking up another 935 style tail after I get the motor fit.
More updates in a few days. |
Nothing much to report except for a few pics of eye candy of the 935 rear 19" wheels and fans pre shipping to the shop in Van Nuys.
http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/935bbs_rears21.jpg http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/935bbs_rears11.jpg Also concerning the motor and trans, the box we're going to be using is the 4 speed with a short R&P and Quafie differential. The motor is a custom work of art, 3.8 liter, 634 rwhp at 1 bar, just plunked down my deposit and will be doing the motor swap in July. Really great job......your engine is amazing.....
Wich EFI management do you use....? |
Its FAST standalone engine management all custom done by a shop in California. Custom built turbos etc. The original customer pulled all the stops for this motor.
|
OK.....I know their products (reading only..) through GSF EFI proposal.....wich one are you using....?......
And did you built your engine or bought it as it is.....? Thanks. |
I'm purchasing the engine already built and tuned from a fellow Pelican member, sorry I don't have more info on the setup as its really not my forte. I just know nothing but the best was used on the motor. I do know for a fact that this motor has pulled over 850 hp at the rear wheels, so whatever components their using for fueling, its working!
The only changes I plan on making are to have a friend of mine construct a set of equal length inkenil (spelling?) headers to get rid of the frankenstein ones on there currently. |
KILLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you can't beat the old 930s!!!!!!
|
Reaper, great work. You gottta have a flat fan to fully complete your project... take a look at Micke Sven's site.
http://www.spezialmotorer.com/ He's also got lots of 935 motor reproduction stuff. |
Yeah but at $35k for a fan...I think I can do without. His parts are TOP OF THE LINE...but I just can't justify any of his stuff due to the extremely expensive nature.
Put it this way, my car when finished will have cost less than one of his 900 bhp twin turbo 935 replica motors. I have funding...but priorities list this project at 4 or 5, not #1. |
Reaper,
Good to see you making some serious progress!! Saw that motor for sale a couple months back, glad it went to someone in the fold. It reads killer...! Paul |
Sweet mother of..........that is one hell of an engine !!!!!!!

I absolutely love the colour, the wheels, the wings, the fenders, the hubs, the motor.... AWESOME! |
Thanks guys, should have the body back together here in a couple of weeks getting the hubs and suspension fit. Can't wait to update you guys again soon!
Again thanks for the kind comments. |

P.S. You might want to use a different method of securing the oil drain line from the turbo to the turbo sump pump. That tie-wrap will fail in no time flat at those oil/exhaust temps. :D |
Thanks, the motor is still in the other car as we're not swapping until July time frame. There are a few point on the motor in which we're going to make revisions. I'm not happy that everything isn't all stainless steel braided lines...so just about everything is going to go to AN fittings :)
|
Great score Reaper! you saved yourself tons of headaches by finding an already built motor.

This project just went from fantasy wish I were to "for real"! No offense, but I was thinking this was going to be a cool looking car kinda. Now it seems to be front page killer!
|
Are the headers on there now stainless steel? Just wondering why you would splurge big money for inconel headers when those look fine. When you say inconel are you talking inconel enriched stainless steel or straight inconel, the stuff is not cheap at all, I think a Ti exhaust would be cheaper! Nice benefit is that it is rather light and cools very quickly.
Another beast born in SoCal, gotta love it. Cheers |
Porschekid962, not sure but I think they're stainless. The headers I'm thinking of having made up are straight inconel, and yes its pricy as all hell but with my experience with it in the aircraft engine world (industrial power) I think it would be neat to have.
Ti would crack as it can't handle the heat/cool cycle as well as 321 stainless or Inconel - they're great for exhausts but not for headers. quattro: Not sure how to take that but I'm sure its a compliment, however I'm not building this thing to be a magazine car or to appease a greater audiance. This is all about making me happy and bringing never ending smiles. Schnele & Matteo: That's exactly what I was telling the wife!!! After all the headache its been deciding on body panels, body color, interior, suspension, wheels, brakes, hubs etc. I just wanted a big motor done by someone else who wasn't becoming burnt out! Not to mention I don't have to have "break in" time with the motor as she's all ready to go - when I get back to the US in November I can just jump in and enjoy the efforts. |
Okay, not as far along as I had hoped however the body work is picking up again. The shop has a window to knock out the paint and we finally made a decision on the rocker panels...
As you can see in the last 4 pictures the rocker panels don't look like they'll fit easily, they're from AIR's 911 GTR series but the only ones that flare out almost enough. The point to the rockers is that with the midsection of the car up so high without rockers compared to the ultra low front bumper, it just doesn't look right to me. I know its not historically accurate but I'm not out to copy the mid year 935, I'm making it my own. The catch with the rockers is that they'll be bonded to the body, as with such modification to them, there is no other way to have them removable, plus this will help the lines flow better anyhow. All jacking of the car will be done with airjack assistance so I don't see any problems there. Anyway enough of me jabbering...please enjoy the bodywork Porn  threw in a pic of the 19"s just because http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209129514.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209129535.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209129579.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209129597.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209129615.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209129631.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209129648.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209129667.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1209130362.jpg |
Nice smell of amazing look......

Besides, you can't win anyway. Some guys build "replica" RS and IROC RSRs often at great expense for correct exotic racing components then invariably a fellow Porsche pusher calls it a FAKE. Just frys my butt. The "real" ones are too expensive to place on the streets and enjoy, but your car is a FAKE. |
Sneak peak until tonight for you guys, got some pics but i'm going to bed. I'll upload the rest tomorrow.
All I can say is...she was born of darkness...my God did she turn out well! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1210005702.jpg |
:)
Ahh screw it, i'm too excited! Some people say that the satin paint loses some of the sexy curves...this proves that the 930 in any variation is TRULY a sexy and amazing car.

Reaper/Guns.. what color is it gonna be?:D
Ok, you know I'm joking right....? Looking good man! With that bod & that monster motor it's gonna be constant "Wood" for you my man!!! Paul |
Reaper,
Just wow! Love your color of your car! I do not own any 911/930's yet but hope to someday (who doesn't?). Good job on your car. |
Black is black..........on the way of success........;)
|
Once you go black, you never go back!
|
Thanks guys for the kind words, this is a little reward before she's fully reassembled in the next few days (body panels).
Nothing on this project would or could have been done without all of your help and insight, this board is responsible for the birth of such projects. We're tackling the interior next, so more updates soon! |
Reaper, beautiful, just beautiful. That satin black glows like the evil, enigmatic black monolith in '2001 A Space Odyssey'
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1210048544.jpg Us pelicanites are the monkeys gazing in awe:D |
that thing is looking so BAD ASS!!!!!!
Can't wait to see the final product. |
So the rumor is correct that in Iron Man II they will introduce a villian driving 935 in black satin livery. Downing in the Audi, and ...
|
Man this is gonna be the coolest car ever ! can,t wait to see it with the front fenders on. Did you sleep at all after you took the pictures ? :D
Cheers, Ed |
Thanks guys! I'm really glad this turned out to be something you guys like. I do it for myself as my dream, however it makes me happy to see others enjoy my ideas.
Dutchie: I haven't even seen the car, won't until November! |
That black shade and sheen is just awesome. Pure stealth evil.
I can just imagine the expression of those tooling down the interstate at night when that thing blows by at tripple digits. What the .... was that!!! |
Flat black is such a fun color, http://westcoastseries.com/images/galleries/2008/fmc2-thunderhill/index.htm, there is a pic from this past weekend at Thunderhill, Mike Quasch in his awesome pro mazda, ppg hot rod black I think is the color, looks a lot shinier in the pic though. Great on the track, awesome on the street.
