I don't want a cage because this is my daily driver...

And just because i'm going to take the car to over 200mph does not mean I need a cage. Its not a race car but a light weight street going GT. In my honest opinion I don't want to survive a crash at 200+, because unless I'm wearing a HANS, a cage is not going to save me anyways.

Eventually I will install a roll bar for the rear and reinforce the front suspension points when I do decided to turn her into a DE car, but not now.

Thanks for the kind words on the project, I'm glad so many take delight in the build, it certainly has become an obsession.

Cowtown10 10-06-2008 06:19 AM

Any chance this car could see the inside of a wind tunnel?
Cool project BTW

Reaper930 10-06-2008 06:49 AM

Well if someone knows where to get windtunnel time on the cheap (see under $5k per hour) then yeah :)

Speedo959 10-06-2008 04:10 PM

How about taping yarn all over the place and have a buddy film it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1223338202.gif

Whtnkls911 10-06-2008 10:07 PM

Do the Vitolani Sebring mirrors fit in the quarter glass like a 935 mirror or were the designed to fit just on the door or fender?

Reaper930 10-06-2008 10:25 PM

They could fit the quarter glass with some two sided 3M tape but I wanted to be true to the original in just about everything but the seats and tail :)

Fair enough, the build just seems so balls to wall I was wondering about a cage.

You'll have to do the Texas mile, video of this car doing that would make my year! 850hp and what? 1300kgs if that..... DANG.

Reaper930 10-07-2008 01:57 AM

We're shooting for 1,150kg.....and yes we're doing the Texas Mile...and we're going to see what she'll do top end this trip home :)

Somewhere around 3 lbs (1.35kg) per horsepower at the wheels will be the final result.

spence88mph 10-07-2008 02:01 AM

Yeah Baby!! Very very cool.

RarlyL8 10-07-2008 04:04 AM

Not that it matters any, but the headlamp position is not DOT legal ... ;) HA!

Looks like I've got to get the Posermobile ready for a trip to the mountains to run with the big dogs. Honestly though, I don't think the Dragon is a good venue for your car. Too wide and powerful. Honda 2000s and Miatas rule the Dragon, motorbikes are everywhere. A 914/6 would be great fun there.

Reaper930 10-07-2008 10:28 PM

Brian, I don't know what you're talking about man! The headlights are "at least" 24" from the ground....

Suspension will be arriving in three days:
Raised front (19mm) spindles
RSR threaded struts front and rear (but no coilovers yet until she's a track whore)
Front Tbars are 22mm gun drilled
Rear Tbars are 28mm gun drilled
New ball joints (OEM)
New rear sway bar
Elephant racing 935 chassis brace (being installed now)

Simply Beautiful! The number of UFO sightings are going to increase xcountry for november-december!

Gab, you may want to consider going at least to rear coilovers now. These guys make a great kit for practically nothing that makes sense to put on now while the suspension is being done.

http://www.rebelracingproducts.com/Suspension/Steering.html

With the kind of HP that engine is making, you will definately need some extra support in the rear for cornering and acceleration. I'm putting #200 lb springs on with stock T-bars due to accel squat. Call Clint at Rebel Racing, super nice guy who will make some recommendations. They make a great rear 935 plate too;)

ViR2 10-08-2008 09:33 AM

just went though all thread and I only have to say... WOW! A truly amazing work, and I love your color choice ;)

JBL930 10-08-2008 10:09 AM

I agree, i have less power (around the 500 mark) and the squat is ridiculous! I have the full coil over set up here in a box ready to fit, it came from Rebel Racing too and it looks great, Bilstein dampers and Eibach springs etc, all very nice looking stuff!

+1 on at least coil over helpers from Rebel.

A930Rocket 10-08-2008 04:33 PM

A couple of quick thoughts:

-Make sure they install the mirrors in the right location. The driver side looks too far back and the passenger side doesn't mount in the same location as the drivers side.
-Get the coil overs. They're cheaper and make ride height and corner weighting much easier.
-Looking at the Rebel Racing site, you may need the bump steer kit for the lowered spindles.
-Did you decide on sway bars or did I miss it?

-I know it's your DD, but think about a custom cage. I can't recall if you have FG or CF doors and if you do, you have no side protection. We'd hate to lose a good friend.

Reaper930 10-08-2008 10:21 PM

Thanks guys...on the coil overs, we're using the RSR setup (I think its from Clint) with threaded bodies (font and rear) that will allow a spring setup in the future my main concern right now is cracking the towers etc. We'll most likely have helper springs put on in the rear for the trip.

For now I want to see how she is with the RSR's all around (with bump steer kit) and beefed up sway bars. She's going to require some changes in the future but I want to experience the full transition.

On the mirrors they set them up with line of sight in the driver seat and Fred is my size so they should be just right for me. The doors are now being sent to the body shop to get the holes closed up (I was thinking about 993 aero mirrors for a minute).

My doors and hood are steel - so no side protection was lost...that was a big one for me. Thank you for the concern...its nice to know i'm regarded as a friend of the community.

Looking good so far. I really dont feel like reading through all this but what throwout bearing are you using? Whoever owns that shop ought to clean it up, what a dump man.

Reaper930 10-19-2008 03:26 AM

Not sure on the throwout bearing - but as far as how the shop looks, not all shops look like hospitals. The last 917 I saw put together in Van Nuys, CA was in a shop in similar shape.....

Being an a$$ connoisseur myself, i can truly saw with authority that that rear is truly a work of art. Good job Gab and your shop is doing great job. Let me know about that t-shirt thing.

BTW, how far are you front spindles raised? Also, are u using a tranny cooler?

Reaper930 10-19-2008 08:07 AM

19mm and no tranny cooler for now. She won't see the track until next summer so I didn't figure i'd set that up until then. I'll hit you up on email for the Tshirt thing, i totally forgot to respond my bad!

And yeah, that is one heck of a rear isn't it ? :)

cl8ton 10-19-2008 08:37 AM

Looking very nice!

One Q, what's this spin on filter for? At least it looks like one.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1224434196.jpg

Reaper930 10-19-2008 08:45 AM

I couldn't tell ya to be honest, I'll have to ask the shop. Its a 964 motor so....any guesses?

WERK I 10-19-2008 09:11 AM

964 factory engines had a secondary oil filter console where there used to be a oil cooler.

NathanUK 10-19-2008 12:29 PM

I think that filter will filter oil on the way into the engine.

Our 930's only filter oil on the way out of the engine, the filter is screwed in the top of the tank.
I don't see why the 964 would be the other way round, but I guess it's possible.

WERK I 10-19-2008 12:34 PM

964's do it both ways. Sorry couldn't resist! :D

juicersr 10-19-2008 12:38 PM

From what i recall, this secondary oil filter the byproduct of the race department's evolution of the flat-six. It is merely a bolt-on replacement to where the engine oil cooler goes. I think Partric Motorsports or someone carries it. If ur running a good front cooler, finned lines, etc , the engine cooler is superfluous.

WERK I 10-19-2008 01:01 PM

Item #44/58 shows the oil filter console for the C2 964's.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1224450103.jpg

Reaper930 10-19-2008 09:02 PM

Bravo guys...cool stuff! Makes sense as it was originally a C2 case.

onboost 10-20-2008 06:01 AM

Gab,

dude.. you are such a tease!!! :D

Looking way good!

rsrmike 10-20-2008 07:30 AM

964 Normally aspirated cars used a smilar oil filter system as the early cars, the biggest difference being that the filter was first in line out of the engine on the oil's path through the front cooler and back to the engine. Still after the engine though

965 cars used the engine mounted oil filter, filtering the oil on it's way to the bearings, etc, versus on the way back to the tank. I assume to make way for the heater fans/hoses mounted in the rear fender wells.

The 965 had no oil filter for the scavenged oil:confused:

It wasn't until the 993 that Porsche installed both an engine mounted filter for pressure feed side as well as a larger filter for the scavenged oil, mounted near the oil tank. - probably the best oiling system yet for their drysump system.

OK, enough oiling system trivia, my real concern is:

Reaper, what are they doing for a front oil cooler setup?

I hope it's adequate! W/ all that power and no engine mounted cooler, you're going to need ALOT of front cooler.:)

You can fit 2 964/965/993 front coolers stacked end to end behind the opening in your 935 bumper w/ fittings facing outwards, plug the temp sensor holes, run some -16 lines w/ metric fittings ,(or use 30mm mertic adapters w/ AN fittings) and plumb them in series(allowing the oil to go through both coolers)

Reaper930 10-20-2008 07:49 AM

Oil cooling setup is a custom made front cooler that takes up the entire front opening with 2 additional coolers behind the headlights with fans. All lines are stainless steel braided with -16 AN fittings :) Its going to be more than adequate.

Onboost: a tease huh? Hahaha I just can't wait to finally see her.
