coil over helper springs
My car had a serious squat issue and Clint recommended these.
I got them Monday and redid all the bars and lowered my car to where I wanted it. Probably took 8-10 hours with all the adjusting. Anyway, I'm very happy with them. I set the rear bars very low and then installed these and raised it up about an inch. No more squat, and that was the goal. It rides the same as far as I can tell ![]() ![]() ![]() |

You cranked in about an inch using the springs? What size springs do you have?

ben, have you been drinking?
and his car is one our conversion turbo kit on his carrera they 're 200 # springs, and yes I just set the rear bars down to 24.5 or so inches and used the coils to raise it up to 25 flat, it was very easy. In fact it took longer to set the front ride height than re indexing the whole rear. But of course I have camber and toe issues in the rear since I sheared a toe bolt off with the impact. I'm trying to figure out who to take it to now. I have that snazzy home alignment booklet by Scruggs, and it's very complete, but i don't really want to get into all that. |

The reason I asked about the size of springs is that I have 100lb helpers and they are only "just" engaged. If I crank in anymore, the rear tires easily break lose and the ride is way too stiff in the back - almost feels unbalanced. Anyway, nice set up.

Craig,
Why is the the "right way" as opposed to putting in an appropriate rate coil spring and the associated gussetting? Why not toss the torsion bars all together? Does the coil spring only add spring rate when the rear end wants to squat under acceleration? Cheers

My best guess is that right now these are splitting the load 50/50 between bars and coils. I've only driven 20 miles or so, after I get an alignment and make it over to a friends house with scales I'll be able to see exactly whats going on with the weight on the rear.
My car is probably heavier than yours Don, but I just went with what was given to me. I think Clint goes with a best guess regarding weight and engine and stuff. You have a bigger bar and most likely a lighter car. (speculation) It was very flat on boost, no more front end rising up and steering getting light. I actually purchased from Ben who is selling these now also |

How do you fit those tubes to the shocks? I am guessing you have to weld them on?

the groove is machined in by? Clint?
there is the option of sending yours in and having this done. I think this could be done locally but if someone accidentally penetrates the body, you'd be in a bind |

I call it the right way because getting enough spring rate on a 930 torsion car is nearly impossible w/o helpers.
At any rate, the setup is a great solution for our cars.
