930 Weltmeister rear sway bar
I purchased a used rear 22mm Weltmeister sway bar for my '77 930. Most of the hardware was not included. I had to machine the small spacers that attach to the heim joints where the bolt passes through and order the eccentrics and clamps to attach it to the car. I attempted installation over the weekend and discovered the spacing on the body and clamp do not line up. The spacing on the car is much narrower. Also, the bar apparently needs some sort of spacer to move it far enough away from the front transmission mount to clear. Does anyone out there have experience with installing a rear bar on a first-generation turbo?

Is it too wide or narrow for the mounts?
The bar kind of floats in the mounts. You need to use hose clamps to keep it centered between the two mounts. |

The spacing issue is on the clamps themselves. The u-bracket bolt-hole spacing is considerable wider than the bolt spacing on the car. If you install one of the bolts the other bolt misses the hole by about 2-3 millimeters. Also, the bar itself will not clear the front trans mount unless I space it away from the bottom of the car.

Sqeeze the shackle clamps together a little with a vice so the bolt holes aline. You may need to use a rat tail file to oblong the bolt holes too.
The 911 bar is straight, the 930 bar is identical only with a dip in the center reigon to clear the trans crossmember. I used a 911 bar on my 930 and I cut a 1/2" aluminum spacer for each side to go between the "U" bracket and the mount on the car. |
