Turbo Tank Drain Plug Torque
Hey Guys,
For all my fellow anal retentive DIY Turbo friends... anyone have a clue on the torque spec for the turbo oil tank drain plug? I have not read in any of the books where anyone actually drains it but I figure someone on here must be at least as crazy as me. Thanks in advance!!!

Are you talking about the oil reservoir under the oil filter?

Nope... the little tank under the turbo that uses a 6mm allen wrench. It is an M12 but no one seems to make the exact washer either so I ended up with this relatively large OD but M12 ID aluminum washer and want to make sure I torque it correctly.

I would go relatively low, like around 14 ft lbs.
I think the fitting in the tank is brass with a tapered thread. The PO of my car had it overtightened and it was heck to remove. Bill K

I don't sweat things like that. Tighten it hand snug and check for leaks then give it an extra tweak. If you drain it with every oil change you'll never have a problem with it sticking shut.

Agreed! You just sort of develop a "feel" for this kinda stuff. I know that sounds like a slam on the original poster, but I don't mean it as such...just use your best judgment and you should be fine. I have found that in most circumstances the "gorilla grip" approach is a bad thing when tightening fasteners on these things (lug nuts not withstanding). Now when you're talking about rod bolts, head studs, case fasteners....then yeah, you gots to bust out a damn fine torque wrench!
