Zorks at the track
Has anyone run into issues running zorks at tracks with noise restrictions?

Zork at the track
Zork will not cut it at a noise restricted track like Laguna Seca, No issues at other tracks in California such as WIllow Springs, Buttonwillow and Cal Soeedway. Loud, loud, loud. I will not run it on the street due to the noise either. I love it on the track as I can hear the engine better with my helmet on.

Thats what I figured... unfortunately I am finding more and more of the tracks here in the Midwest are taking issue with noise levels (at least during driving school events).

I was running a straight pipe (a.k.a longer version of Zork that I fabricated) and had to change because of noise restrictions in a few of the tracks I run (Le Circuit Mt. Tremblant & Calabogie Motorsports Park).
Its unfortunate but it seems that this is the new reality around the NE as well...

I've got a short muffler that exits the passenger's side that may work with the noise restrictions. It has a straight through 3" ID and is about a foot and a half long but significantly reduces the dBs as compared to a Zork. If you want I can sell it with a stub pipe and you can add a 90* bend with a clamp that points straight toward the ground for even more sound diffusion.

Brian - What might be interesting would be if you could fab something like that up that has a couple of bends in it in order to reroute the exit to the same location of the zork. That way those of us that are setting up our rear valences to accomodate zorks and 934 wastegate pipes don't need extra exit points in the valance for alternative set ups.
Maybe there isn't room to do it... thoughts?

Yes it is possible, and yes it is a modification of the current stock exit design.
The problem is cost. There are lot of folks asking me for custom zorks and "muffled" zorks with custom outlets. I don't get called back after quoting the price. That 180* bend and muffler add a bunch to cost. If you truely want a non-restrictive muffler with a center exit I can modify a stock exit muffler to do that. The 934 waste gate pipe can be used with it. The price will be the same as a stock exit muffler. The entire unit will weigh 10 pounds. Do you think there would be a market for such a "track muffler" at that cost?

Probably... would the tip look the same as the zork exity? I can't access your website from the office... how much money are we talking?

sound readings
At Laguna Seca we know where the sound meter is loacated and consequently have the tail pipe exit away from the sound meter. SO if they have a spot to read noise on the straights on the pit side we have the pipes exit to the opposite side. Don't know if you can get the info for your specific track ahead of schedule.

ditto at Lime Rock.
once we know where the db meter is set up, all the zorks head out the other side Watkins Glen is still unrestricted. Bill K

Unfortunately in some cases in the midwest I think its a little less 'scientific'. Hey... flag that guy in the black porsche... he's too loud!

At an event last year I saw a guy with a zork that had a swivel that allowed him to point it in any direction he wanted. How tough would that be ?

A few bucks north of $650 in raw finish. I can add a slip joint at the tailpipe so you can point it down toward the ground if you wish, and yes it will exit exactly as a Zork would so that the 934 pipe can be used with it.
I have suggested that if folks want an inexpensive (read heavy) system they should simply go to any muffler shop and have them weld up a cherry bomb with a tailpipe going any direction they wish. Probably cost a couple hundred bucks or so.

Brian - Didn't you also fab up some sort of insert that could be installed inside the zork to cut down the Dbs a bit?

I did but it doesn't help enough in my opinion. It takes the edge off but there's only so much you can do with a foot of pipe and no muffler.
