Ultimate garage queen on eBay
This one will be fun to watch. 1979 with only 1500 miles on it. Too bad it will probably just end up in another collectors showroom. Either that, or in the shop for an engine re-seal, after all these years on non-use. And still with the original tires, in excellent shape - of course!

I just can't fathom having a car like that sitting in the garage. Why not drive it like it was meant to?

Hard to tell from the crappy pics, but it doesn't appear to be all that clean.

I've never seen a '79 930 with an 85 mph speedometer...

Yeah...
That is the speedo that came out of a '82 Carrera after it was totaled within 2 months of the lease. It replaced the 930's speedo that had 32,000 track miles on it in the first year. I'd like to see the P/N on that speedometer please... Good Catch!

I asked him about the speedo. This is what he said.

That ridiculous US law went into effect in 1980 ( thanks Joan Claybrook) and I think only 1980 and later cars were required to run them.

Just for grins, I sent the seller a message.
![]() Hi, The 85 mph speedometers were not mandated in the US until 1980. Do you know what happened to the original speedo? Thanks,

My '79 has a 160mph speedo, but it's 26 cars before this one and I guess it could have been changed. I couldn't find where California speedo laws were any different.

Hmmm. There are people who will pay the extra money for ultra-low mile Porsches but most of the value is in the low miles. The more you drive it the less valuable it becomes so this is not a drivers car which makes it an ornament or a poor investment for someone who wants to actually enjoy it. l wouldn`t be surprised that the speedo is original, that is a hand made car early in production and California bound, lots of small changes occured even from car to car back then. Nice original time capsule car, cool but not practical for many prospective buyers..

That's what I'm thinking!!! My car had 35,000 when I picked it up, and it looked like Hanz and Franz had just finished assembling it...minty fresh!!!! Maybe it's the crappy pictures, but that thing no look so good for such few miles.

....and there are 14 bids on it so far, up to almost $36,000. Bidding sight-unseen, I might ask? Would you bid that kind of money on a set of crappy pictures, mispellings in the descriptions, dubious and mysterious stuff like the 85 MPH speedo and the toasted intercooler seal? Maybe all the bidders live just around the corner and have checked her out personally.

Seems reasonable so far. I bid for awhile but would need to see, touch & smell ( plane ticket ) to go anywhere near what I suspect he is thinking of. I requested all documents like photocopy of service manual all supporting doc's original owners name and any service records. So far no paperwork. He changed the wheels and tires with new repo wheels to save the originals and to be able to drive over 30MPH. I had a original late ser#1979 Ca car recently w/ 14000 mi & service rec from new by Resnick and it had the 85mph speedo. A retired Porsche dealer has a red ( one of the last 50 made with the plaque ) with under 100 mi ( back and forth off the service hoist to keep it perfect as possible with non use ) and I personally have had people trying to buy for over $65K starting as many as 12 years ago, recently offers are more but he won't commit to a sale. I suspect this will be a no sale on ebay as if it is real it could go for quite a sum for those "right " buyers that have been trying to get the red one. According to the pictures ( he said those were taken 2 years ago see photo of speedo w 14XX miles) but claims it has since been fully serviced with anything it needed. Would be nice to see the service invoice and to talk to the tech.
