15" tires brand and size question

Xmas is coming and my project needs a new set of shoes.

What size and brand tires are folks running on a 15" rim on a 79 930 turbo. P.O. had four Dunlop SP 8000's in 245/50/50 all around mount on 9 fronts and 11 rears. Two were shot, two are brand new although I'm not too keen on running the same size tire all around. Suggestions? The car looks sad with rims, no tires and the motor out in pieces...

245 on a 11x15, I'm surprised they stretched that far. The rears should be a 295-335. The 245's on the front are o.k. Michelin TB 5's or TB15's, or Pirelli P7's. I suggest you sit down when looking up the prices. For Michelin check Coker Tires, and Tire Rack for the Pirelli's.

I have run Yoko 285/40-15 but they have been discontinued for many years. Good tires!

I have oh so much to learn..I was thinking the 245 where to big for the front rims. If I can, I would like to use the Dunlops as I have them, yet I'm open

Beepbeep's right, about the Yoko's. Dunlop's are to much of a stretch 255/50/15, Pirelli only has 335/35/15's nothing for the fronts. Michelin's are about the only one's. $2500 next time Cristine needs new shoe's.

Are those Dunlops "new" or "look new"? If they are old but "look new", they will cause handling problems.

I've got a pair of brand new Dunlop 245/50/15 tires that I may be willing to sell. I purchased them a few months ago from Tirerack and have been stored in a climate controlled garage since then.

Let me know if you're interested....

Yokohama AVS 285/40-15 are used by Pantera guys in front (I'm not kidding). You might be able to source a pair trough them but even NOS pieces are getting dry nowadays. They fit on 11-inch rims.

245 or 225 in front is a good combo.

But frankly, 15-inch wide tires are a dying breed. Consider moving to 17-inch, it's much cheaper and easier to find rubber for those.

There are Pirelli's 15-inch tires in 315 width which might fit on 11-inch wide rim but they have funky "chocolate" vintage pattern which might not be optimal for track driving.

I would also suggest switching to the 17's. I have 9x11 x17 3 pc. fuchs w/255 fronts & 315 rears I will be fitting for the winter. The Michelins are not so good in a heavy rain. I'll keep the 15's because they're period correct.

Kaefer - shot you a PM concerning the Dunlops.

As for 17, totally agree as to the upgrade yet I would like to have a set of tires on the 15 as well.

Anyone with an extra set of 17" tires and rims, feel free to send me a PM with a pic and asking price.
