Has anyone put in a 993 G50/20 6 speed trans in a 78-88 930?
Hello guys.
I have been considering buying a G50/50 for my car. I have updated a few cars with G50's years ago. But the G50 6 speeds are much cheaper and many more around. Besides all the normal shifter, pedals, brake booster, hydro line, sometimes a torsion tube, what do you have to do to make a 993 G50/20 6 Speed fit in a 78-88 930? Anyone done it? Thanks in advance.

I think someone has done it- I think it would mean hacking up the chassis though. The right fab guy could make it happen easily. I have always wanted to do it, but affraid of how bad it would kill the re-sale.

I can do the metal work but I don't want to hack up a nice 930 either. Just kicking around the idea. I may still end up looking for a G50/50.

kycarguy,
I modified my chassis to accommodate a 6 speed and it still retains the torsion bar suspension. If your interested in this setup PM me. Thanks, Dan ![]()

Dan
I'm not going with a G50 anytime soon, but I would be interested in what and how you did it. Can you give a quick tutorial with pics? Thanks Rocket |

No offense, but that's why we have this place - show/explain how you do stuff. Sounds like you did some cool stuff we might like to learn. No pm's on this one please.

A section is completely removed from the original torsion tube, custom made splined sleeves are welded in the ends of the existing tube with a flange plates
already attached. A tube in is then added with two more gusset plates bolted to the first two plts. G50 torsion bars and spring plates are then used. I made extra sets of parts for this conversion if anyone is interested. Enough room to put a six speed in there and still run torsion bars. ![]()

For the 6 speed box to work you also need to something about the pick up for the speedo, olli kindly went into a little detail for me on my engine instal thread http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=401863&referrerid=40678
