Ignition Problem?

Moved to Calgary and just pulled my car from 1 year storage. Changed oil and filter and fired it up. Running rough so I put new plugs, wires, cap, rotor in. Check timing and its 2 deg at idle and 29 deg at 4000 rpm vac. line off distributer. However as the rpms climb my timing light misses the odd flash and the engine seems to have a faint miss, and a bit of a shake. Not bad but still it is there. The light is a good Snap-On that works fine on my truck. The car is an 81 930 with Ruff inter cooler and 964 cams otherwise stock with the euro fuel head and lines. Am I right in assuming it is the distributer?

Mine jumps around sometimes as well. Go drive the car for 25 - 50 miles and pull the plugs and see how they look. Sitting for a year might be a fuel problem.

Thanks, I was thinking of a drive with some fresh gas to see if it gets better. I'm just always worried about doing any damage. I hooked up the LM1 and a/f ratio seems fine.

ok update. After running almost a tank of fresh fuel through I still have this faint miss/popping going on all through the rpm range. Otherwise runs great and pulls hard. Just can't get rid of this bit of a miss though, any ideas?

What gap are you using on the plugs? And what plugs? Also, I would check the plug wires for resistance (it might be a loose plug cap - it happened to me before).

I had the Bosch factory ones in there but switched to Densos and I admit just put them in without checking the gap. Wires are new Clemmit, but the symptoms are the same even with the new parts no change. Thinking tomorrow about putting on another coil. Hoping it's not a burnt valve or something, I always think the worst and it's usually something minor. As a note the old plugs were somewhat rich but a boot was loose and I think would have caused that which is now fixed.

Here is an update so others may learn. Changed out coil still no difference. Today went for a nice run burning 3/4 of a tank and making some nice speed pulls. Motor is now running perfect. Whatever happened from sitting caused a little miss and a good run was all it needed.

Sometime a good workout is all you need. You are in good group there so more workout is what doctor ordered. Great looking car there but I'm a little bias. :-)

Your right Dai this is a great group to give the old girl a work out. Hope you get yours out soon so she will have some more company. Quinten's was pulling hard but he couldn't make the trip to Canmore.
