Button on 930 dash

What is the button (at arrow) for in this picture.
The owners manual does not acknowledge it.

No such button on my '87...but jn it's place is a small air vent behind which I believe is a thermistor of sorts as part of the heater control apparatus.

Is that a button or a molded dash “plug” for an uninstalled accessory switch?

It's a spot for a heater fan controller.

Introduced on the 930 in 1984. My car has it.

Interesting. In my Cali '86 it's the intake for the temperature sensor mentioned above to control the auto heat (which works!)

BauerR, where did you get the center console from, I've been looking for one shaped like that for years. Thanks.

In the early G-body cars - 1974 and 1975, the intermittent wiper swich was mounted there. Starting from 1976, this switch is located between speedo and clock, leaving the old location empty, just molded shape left there. It might have been used occassionally for other purposes, as in the example shown by BauerR.

See below example phitos from 74 and 75 cars, found somewhere on the web.

Starting from, 1986 they used this place on the dash to install air inlet to temp sensor (there's a tube behind this little grille leading to temp sensor.
