Need to make a decision about my engine build
Just got some bad news about my 930 crank today: Cracked around part of the #1 rod journal.
This leads me to a point where i need to make a decision: Build the 3.3 or build a 964 based 3.6. This is what I have: 3.6 NA engine w/ nice crank (std/std) Complete from intake to exhaust basically everything on that engine is in nice shape but it is setup for NA use. 3.6 JE turbo pistons (new) 3.3 engine Carrillo rods Cracked crank NOS 3.4 Motorsport pistons Cyls that need plating Twin plugged heads with 52mm int and 43mm exh valves , flame ringed that should be freshened up 3.3 case in nice shape GT2 evo cams (thanks DonE) 964 grind cams (on 930 cams) Pat Williams Racing EFi Should I just fix the 3.3 or should a bag it and sell what is still decent and build a 3.6? This is what I have been thinking about: 3.3 is designed for forced induction 3.6 isn't 3.3 heads have a ton of time and work invested in them 3.6 heads are stock and have ceramic exhaust ports (the ceramic scares me bc I don't want to trash a turbo when/if that stuff breaks off 3.3 crank is stronger than 3.6 crank (supposedly) My 3.3 is set up for my current EFI system (not a big deal to change to another engine but it wil still take some time) I was going to build a new header for the 3.3 so either way i go, a new header is in order. I am sure there are some things I am overlooking. The bottom line is, either way I am going to need to spend some money. Just not sure which engine I should spend it on. BTW, this engine is for my full-time racecar. Your thoughts?

Can the crank be fixed?
With what you have for the 3.3L, keep moving forward with that build, IMO. |

I am doing it.
The machine work is being subbed out. The crank has perpindcular surface cracks on the #1 rod journal and a crack in the rear most fillet of the #1 rod journal. Not sure how deep it is though. Don't think I want to fix it. I would just get another crank. I thought about going to a 2 inch journal but then I would need some new rods. I am leaning in favor of doing the 3.3. I have been looking for a std/std crank. The non-standard crank bearing are so frickin expensive now it is outrageous. Anyone what a freshened NA 3.6?
