Turbo Iroc
Over the past 3 years I've been working on & off at adapting an IROC body kit to my 79' 930. The balk of the work has been around modifying the tail to clear the intercooler. I also took the liberty to add a 3rd brake light. This past week I have finally been able to get it primered. Still have some blocking and leveling to do, but overall I'm very pleased with the results. I'm hoping to have it finished by mid October.

Is that straight pipe welded to the turbo?

Brian,
No the straight pipe is not welded to the turbo. The Turbo outlet has an aircraft style fitting that accepts a flange (no bolts required). The heat of the exhaust seals the connection. Pat Williams out of Memphis did this work. I've been running with this setup for 6 years 20k+ miles with no issues and it works like a champ. A few months ago I had him make me the custom zork tube to go along with my body kit. Keith

The back end looks good. Are you taking off the rockers and replacing the stock front bumper and underpan with an IROC piece?

That is very cool! Can you give more insight as to what is required to fit the wide whale tail on the IC? Which model did you use as a starting point and what did you do to it? I am very interested in alternatives to the big 3.3 tail... Thanks

Copbait73,
Thanks for the feedback, yes I have the front end for it also, I don't plan to do much customizing there (maybe something like the caymen fog lights around the two brake airduct intakes). Not sure yet if I'll take the side rockers off or not, just depends on the look that I'm going for. I'm going more for the aesthetic balance of the car, then correct to the IRCO look. We'll see. 1100sport, I bought the body kit from GT racing (includes IROC tail, front & rear bumpers). I took the tail, and basically cut it in half (separated the decklid portion fromt the airfoil portion). The airfoil had to be raised 3" to clear the intercooler. I originally had different ideas around the air intake, but in the end ended up using the louverd air intake piece from a company that made turbo tails and grafted it in. The rest of the work was more or less cosmetic trying to make it fit to the car better. I took a lot of pictures along the way, and if there is interest I can post more details of the work in progress that lead up to this point.

I finally have the tail base/cleared (man was it a b*tch to clear!). I'm planning to add some matt black around the air intake area as well as around the outer edges. I've got to play around with that a little to see what I like. Full speed ahead to get the front and rear bumpers done.

Love the pipes! I would be almost tempted to run without the rear bumper.
Is it crazy loud or what? |

It's not as loud as you might think under normal driving, but for sure she wakes up when you put the juice to her!

Almost there...Just a few finishing touches and she'll be done. I'm very pleased with the way it's turned out. It was a lot more work than I anticipated.

Great looking car. I'd be inclined to replace the black sharkfins with clear sharkfins, but that's just me.

One of the nicest looking 930s I have ever seen.
The rear view is to die for. |

Love the wheels but a set of 17" Fuchs would look just right.
