Trip to Brumos. left with a Cayenne Gts and a very special motor
Here are a few pics of my trip to Brumos. While my father was picking up his Cayenne GTS, I ventured in the back to ask about the Hillclimb turbo motor I have read about in Panos. I was amazed! Needless to say, we left with a new car and an old motor.
It will go in my 1970 s/rsr replica that I am building. Pics of that car to follow The motor is a M64/50 1994 Porsche Motorsports 3.8 liter spare engine built for a Pike's peak car. The engine came out of the Brumos Racing program. Supposedly has a ton of torque. Over the years, the Brumos Racing department had taked quite a few parts off of the engine. Distributor and plug wires have to come from Germany. My mechanic in Atlanta is mulling over the idea of going EFI with the motor. Here are a few pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

That's great! Too bad you couldn't bring it home in the new pepper.

The engine has a Garrett turbo and a very large intercooler that is not pictured. I was told by a friend that managed the Brumos team for 20 years that this engine was built for a car that was driven by Al Unser Jr. at Pikes Peak. I have been researching for a few weeks. Bob Snodgrass died last year and many of the old Brumos Racing guys have retired. I did get a great letter from Brumos attesting to the heritage of this engine. tate

Great find!
Now sell that CIS stuff to anyone who needs it (it should fit on 3.6T) dual-plug it, put some EFI and off you go! Can you read the stamps on the turbocharger? Looks like T04E

Interesting engine, any specs?
I'd be interested in the CIS if you dump it for EFI.

That happens when you go to Brumos looking around with some extra cash in your pocket.
Great piece of machinery on that crate. Keep us posted on progress. Hey Brian, look at the length of the primaries... low rpm torque? |

What cost more? The GTS or the 3.8?

Thanks for all the compliments. The turbo is an Air Research Garrett. The numbers are
465608 2297-08 I have no idea what they mean. My father loves the the new GTS. It did cost a few more dollars than the engine. I just left Auto Europe where my mechanic Martine Atlologuire took a few more pics of the engine. Brian. I shot a bunch of Header pics for you. The Zork tube is absolutely crazy. I can stick my entire fist in the thing. I will post the pics when I get back to my home computer. Thanks

Didn't know Martine liked to work on anything other than stock motors. Maybe he's drifting to the dark side....

Don E, You just have to catch Martine while he is in a good mood. He is one of the best engine builders in the country but doesn't like to advertise it. Back when Franz Blam was the Service manager at Northlake Porsche, Martine was his engine builder. I have heard of 700hp engines that he has built. Let's see what he wants to do with this one. Tate

I'll be ... Look at the waste gate circuit.
Thanks for posting pictures! What is the story on the front cam covers? The cover and fasteners look like what I have seen on the older factory race engines.

I like the simplicity, and light weight of those headers.
No oil lines running next to any of the pipes to cook the oil either. They look similar to B&B headers without heat other than the wastegate pipe to Y pipe arrangement. It also looks like the turbo scavenge pump may be pumping the turbos used oil to the modified case oil drain plug. Thats good because the oil from the turbo will be sucked up by the engine scavenge pump and pumped through the oil filter on the oil tank that way, rather than being pumped into the oil tank unfiltered like in a stock 930. |
