My new to me 930
Hi all I am new to 930 ownership but not to the forum or Porsche ownership have had a few over the last 20 years but never a turbo so I just wanted to introduce my 930 to everyone on the Turbo forum It is a 1987 with 127000 on it rebuilt engine and trans 20000 miles ago runs strong some mods like the air cleaner and MSD ignition aftermarket wastegate the PPI showed some issues nothing major just oil leaks and for some reason the fuel pumps come on as soon as the ignition is turned on any ideas why that would happen would be appreciated also the door lock switch and key will only unlock the doors not lock them again any help with that would be great. The wheels are my favorite part they are polished on the lips and look like new. I had the clutch adjusted because it did not feel just right and at the PPI they said it was adjusted wrong now when it reaches the top it pops up and I have very little control over it have to bring it back for that very hard to drive now. But little by little I want to straighten evrything out I really love driving it the power is amazing at boost I think I will keep this one for quite some time. Here it is I hope you guys approve

As to your questions: If your fuel pumps are coming on as soon as you turn the key to the "on" position without the engine running, the first place I would look would be the electrical connection (blue - or is it green?) plug behind the fuel head (left side of the intercooler, out of sight back behind and towards the top of the fuel head). If unplugged, the pumps will start immediately with the key turned to on. It's just a safety feature, linked with a microswitch that's actuated when the fuel control arm is deflected by air being drawn down across it (as in cranking the engine). I wouldn't worry about it, but be aware that if you were to get in an accident and even with engine dead, the pumps will continue to run. No problem, unless you've also got a ruptured fuel line squirting fuel all over the place. As to the door locks....hmmm. Mine work fine, locking as well as unlocking, using either the drivers side or the passenger side. To be honest, I can't remember if there are 2, or only 1, solenoid(s) that actuate the lock arms inside the door. You may have to do some exploratory surgery, take off the door panel and check it out. Could be one of the mechanism arms has come disconnected. Damned old age...and it was just last year that I had my drivers door completely dismantled to replace the locking mechanism. My memory is not working today.

Looks nice.
If it is Prussian Blue 930 you're right, it looks good in any light. I had one that colour for a while. Look for this paint code sticker (on the left) in the front RHS of trunk. ![]()

Nice car. Well done. looks like Baltic Blue from photos. obviously different in natural light I guess. You're going to have a lot of fun. I had a bit of trouble with key entry. Found that there seems to be a bit of spring loading in the lock and if I gently push the key in before turning it either way the locks worked just fine. Enjoy.

Walt that connection is connected maybe the PO wired the pumps differently for some reason Mark said this is nothing to worry about so I guess I will live with it for now just want to drive the car all summer and not lay it up for any period of time.Would love to meet other 930 owners in the area is there any place that people gather locally. I take my motorcycle to so many different local motorcycle events I was thinking maybe 930 owners got together too.

Welcome and congrats!
That thing looks tremendous for the mileage - impressive. And my fave color! Love that. Looks to be well kept and well preserved (nearly stock). Very cool. Ditch them infernal tires, they're junk. Mine came with them, fronts locked up under braking and rears spun right off. Wore horrendously. Enjoy! ps. pleaseohplease insert some *punctuation* into your posts, they're pretty hard to read - like one random stream 'o conciousness 8-) |

Nice car, thats a late '87 from looking at the rear window mounted third brake light.
'86 and early '87 cars that were actually assembled in late '86 have the goofy looking cyclops third brakelight mounted on the rear lid that could be used for an intercooler water spray nozzle mount. You can see the manufacture date and VIN on the sticker in the driver door jam. It may have the small strengthening gussets on the rear shock towers they started installing around the same time for the '88 models onward. That looks like venetian blue metallic paint to me. That color was available in '87 and '88 and then again later on the 964 but it may have been a little diferent shade of blue then. My '87 is the same color with linen color interior and if you look in the front trunk on the passenger side under the carpet just forward of the shock tower there should be a sticker with the paint code. 1987-88 venetian blue metallic paint code is L35U. The blue changes a little under different light. In the shade or under clouds it is more grayish blue and under bright sunlight or camera flash it is a deeper blue but still a slate gray blue. |
