Yep, E-man knows what he is talking about regarding the exh studs. I would use ARP studs, too.
As for the drill bit...the only suggestion I can make is to use carbide drill bit (don't know correct size). It will cut through almost anything. Just don't break the drill bit! Use cutting fluid with firm pressure backing it out every few seconds. |

Thanks for asking. My machinist bud swung by Sunday and despite my telling him the jig was en-route, he dove on in there and drilled the 2 flush ones out Commando. Madman. Not to diminish his efforts, he made it look easy tho. Didn't take but an hour maybe. He did a great job. That leaves 2 more w/ nuts on them that need to be welded. Those will likely snap flush, we'll use your jig and drill them. Hoping its arrival might be awaiting my return from bizz travel tonight. Have my welding bud lined up hopefully tonight, will report back. ALMOST THERE, phew. Thanks again. Can't wait to use your stainless hardware. Pelican gets 15% restocking fee for mine - worth it. |

Yeah, I know right? I told him 'well you're the boss!' and just sat back and handed him tools. Jah, jig arrived today - THANKS again. Welding friend didn't call me back so hopefully tomorrow, I'm sure those last 2 will snap flush and then we can jig it up. ps sorry I added an "m" to yer name in my previous post - fixed! 8-) |
Got jiggy w/ it last night and drilled one of the last 2 out (welded nuts just snapped the studs further up), just need to chase the threads w/ a tap and do the last one. That one there's a nub of the stud left and it's mushroomed so the jig wouldn't fit over it and it was midnight so I pulled the plug.
Taking tonight off 8-/. Question for ya's... w/ an aftermarket drip tank (Brian's), can I still run the OE hard supply / return lines or do I need aftermarket flex? I just thought of this after reading reference to it in another post. No one'd mentioned it thus far despite mentioning the need of the new drip tank and other oil lines so I'm hoping I'm not further delayed by yet another parts order 8-/? (fingers crossed!) Man, can't wait for tomorrow. Reassembly begins. Say, can anyone tell me where this goes? In my infinite geniusdom I figured "yeah I'll remember all this"... 4wks later and I'm befuddled. No need to chase the threads - just find the edge of the threads with a pick and carefully pry it up then grab it with a good pair of pliers and pull... The remaining threads should just "unwind" out of the head like a coil.
