Legitimate Octane boost or gimmicks?
I have had several auto-parts stores try to sell me Octane fuel boost, but non of them seem to provide any tangible data on the can of what it's really doing.
I would think trying to adjust timing for such a product would also be a major crap-shot. Anyone use a product they would recommend, or is this just snake-oil in a can? Thanks.

I think some have some of those nasty fuels F1 turbo cars used to run, but really, if there are molecules in the combustion chamber with low activation energy (low octane) and high activation energy (high octane), then the pressure and heat is going to touch off those low octane molecules no matter what. So octane boosters would need to be inhibitors that would surround the low octane molecules and keep them away from oxygen until the high octane ignition point was reached.

Be very careful with this idea. Not the same as 110 at the track. Can burn a valve or piston.

Don't use Avgas. Use racing fuel please. No lead would be even better.

You might take a look at WMI. Seems to address all the issues you are concerned with. 50/50 mix of water and methanol will drop combustion chamber temps as much as 300*, cleans combustion chambers heads and valves as it works. deters detonation, and makes 97 octane fule react like 110 octane.
No dog in this hunt, but running Wall mart windshield washer fluid at $1.82 a gallon will do wonders and is a hell of a lot cheaper than race gas. Just a quick photo from when I was installing mine ![]() Cole

When the bottle says it raises 15 gallons 3 points it means it will raise 15 gallons from 91 to 91.3 which isnt enough to even matter. There used to be a morroso octane booster for making race gas it was sold in one gallon or 5 gallon cans and was really expensive. That was i believe the only one that would actually work. But you would have to add a gallon or two to each tank of gas if i remember correctly. Probably better off swapping to EFI and tuning it to E-85. Here in florida we have 93 octane at the pump unlike the 91 out on the left coast. Also plenty of e-85 stations and even places around to buy race gas and av gas.

Hey Ken, I mix it with water for water injection.
WMI during boost was mentioned above as an anti knock aid kind of like octane booster. I don't put it in the gas tank. I put that pic up for the fun of it after Coles and Darins WMI posts.. |
