I think we started a project....
First off all, thank you for all the information I lurked for the last few week.
Some might recognize our project as I posted some already at Rennlist. We, Sam(11 years) and myself are living in Kamloops BC and we bought our selves a porsche. In my younger days I took some German cars, (BMW, VW) apart About 2 months ago we found a 1978 911sc on classic autotrader.com We where in Seattle for a concert and decided to check it out. I went back a few weeks later and made an offer and we bought a Porsche. We took a flight and drove it back on a 2 day trip and actually made it home! We paid $ 8500 so what can you expect.... During our search the last year we saw some really nice cars for 13-15K. It would have been smart to buy one of those, but there is not much to restore a nice shiny car. Our goal was a project car to work on together. Probably going to spend twice the amount of a nice ready to go car, but you can't be rational all the time..... ![]() About 2 weeks ago we started taking the car apart. the engine was running really well, shifting a bit rough in 1 st and 2nd. Overall condition isn't that bad. Only little bit of rust found under the rear window. An interesting find was the change of outside and inside color. We found out the original color is copper with Cork interior, in stead of red with black.(all panels where painted black) Thank you for having us here on this great forum. Let's post some pictures! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Besides being in a great location (memories of Vancouver...) You have an awesome shop in which to do the work on your new project. But the best value you will get is the quality time with Sam (your son?). My kids remind me of our garage exploits all the time and both my grown-up son and daughter change their own oil and do basic mechanical work.
Good Stuff. Mark

Really nice purchase
Any plans of paint? I really love the indish rot color but nothing beats the copper color in my book ![]() ![]() |

I did the same with my son a few years back. The experience was amazing. He is now turning 21 and I've let him drive it since he was 12. It changed his life and mine too.

Thank you for the nice words
Yes Sam is my son. It's amazing how much he picked up in such a short time already. He is a real petrol head. Seen all seasons and episodes of Top Gear UK.
For the car, we are a little bit in doubt here. We where planning to take it apart and recondition the interior, engine and give it a fresh coat of bright red. However, we figured out later the original color is the copper metallic clear coat. (Nice ppi btw, should have checked the color code in door jam ![]() When taking the door panels off, we saw that somebody had painted the interior black. ![]() So we either return it to his original state, and make it copper/cork, or we just make it how we like it with his heritage in mind. I don't mean a pimped up body kit, but maybe the 930 look. We still have at least 4-8 weeks of demolition work to do. Everything has to come off. Time to make up our minds. Thanks for the nice words on the shop. I build the house a few years ago and needed a place to stay. We bought 2 trailers and lived on the property for about 1 1/2 year. When winter approached, the house was not done yet (not even close) and we had to either rent a house or bring the trailers inside. We choose the latter part and ended up with a nice shop. ![]() ![]() ..I got a door panel and want it painted black.... ![]() ![]() ![]() the Shop... Last edited by rrental; 09-05-2011 at 09:28 AM.. A few months later....
We are still working on our"project". Here a few pictures of our progress.
We are almost stripped all the way down to the tub. Only rust so far is some in the rear corner where the window used to be. Not a big issue. Hopefully we can start stripping paint early spring! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Started this thread a while ago in the wrong section. (sorry, newbie) Maybe one of the moderators can move it to 911 (non turbo) thread. Thanks!

Let us know, I have been lurking and waiting for progress. I had a great relationship with my dad when it came to planes, I could fly before I could drive. I have an 87 parts Carerra if you need anything I have. I will donate it to the father son project if I have it.
Stay warm, it's chilly in NH tonight. |

We made some progress in the last few months. As always, life and work got in the way and not to much has been done. We are expecting to put it on the rotisserie in the next week or so.... NH is a beautiful area. Visited a friend there about 10 years ago. I think the place was called Bedford. |

Congrats on the project! My wife and I left Kamloops about 3 years ago. Great roads for an early morning drive once your finished. Enjoy the time building the car.

All in a days work!
After some helpful advise from the pelican forum I finally got the torsion bars removed. It's time to put her on the rotisserie!
The only thing to be done before stripping the paint is removing the wiring harness. I have been procrastinating this but I guess there is no way out.... Pictures!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It has been a while, but we got some movement in the project again! Ordered a sunroof insert from Chris out of the UK and got in welded in this week.
Car has been taken of the rotisserie and I build a cart for us to move it around in the shop. The last few parts have been removed and it's almost ready to get media blasted. Few pictures! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
