Advantage(if any) for removing stock wastegate 'muffler'...

I have seen a few pics of motors with what looks like the standard KKK Turbo/factory wastegate system, but seen a few with nothing more than a angled pipe as replacement for the baby-muffler coming off wastegate.

Pro's and con's to this? My thinking is on a cold day, with no buffer between the muffler and the exit of the turbo, exposure to that cold air could quickly warp the blades on the turbo(somewhat like an open exhaust being hit with cool air after shutdown can warp exhaust vavles).

Thanks!

cannot effect the turbo in any way. it reduces back pressure on the wastegate which is a good thing. will effect your emissions slightly and may throw a red flag to your state inspection if you are required to go thru a visual inspection.
will throw flames on boost and sounds awesome.

The primary advantage is that the sounds that come out of the unmuffled pipe are sure to give you instant wood (maybe a viagra substitute?) !!!! Sometimes, just looking at it can have this effect . . .

Took mine off many moons ago. All it used to do was to muffle the glorious sounds. No functions other than that. I think Porsche put them on in favor of the soccer-moms, not wanting to make any noise suggestive of a high performance machine. Right up there with all the emissions crap.....

I put my muffler back and it still sounds bad a**. Straight pipe was a bit too much attention but I will likely try it again next summer just for fun.

If I want attention I can always shut the ignition on an over run untill it gives a HELL of a BANG, but thats not healthy for the turbo as the bang probably explodes in the header.

+1... when you hit boost and the waste gate opens, you definitely know you are driving a Porsche. I cut my waste gate muffler open to remove the baffles (I posted that process on here somewhere) and it is still too quiet compared to a straight pipe. Unfortunately the quad pipes on the SE exhaust require you to bolt the left side pipes to the waste gate

Mine is wide open and it makes it sound like you have a jet engine under the tail when accelerating on boost. Its really cool when driving next to a retaining wall on the road.
Plus you save a few extra ounces of weight off the rear of the car too!
