Expertise needed on parts for 930 turbo rebuild.
Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum and Porsche for that matter. I am busy getting my 930 turbo that I purchased 6 months ago up to a decent standard. In the process I have a few questions that might seem daft to some but as a beginner I need to learn what I'm talking about so please bear with me. Firstly, my car is a 1987 euro 930 Turbo. ![]() On servicing the car and finding out its problems we came across sheared rod studs, so my mechanic replaced them with Porsche ones. are there different Porsche rod studs for this application or are they all they same? I have heard of 993 studs, ARP etc and these were damn expensive from Porsche but I presume there are a few different porsche types. My first question is which Porsche ones are these and will they withstand 1.2 bars or 500hp ? How do they compare to ARP etc? ![]() Secondly when doing the head and checking the cams, I would like to confirm what kind of cams I have? They say SC, are they? If so what is the difference between these, 964 and normal cams in terms of performance? ![]() ![]() |

Hi and welcome to the forum. Great looking car, please post more pictures.
Not sure about the cams, but you need to find out in order to set the correct timing. SC cams could be timed from 1-1,7 mm. Upper value, more low end torque. 964 cams should be timed at 1,26mm. 964 cams has more power on the top compared to SC cams. What mods are you planning when going for 500hp?

Cams and
Hi totle,
Don't think I'll get up to 500 hp on CIS which I want to keep for now, maybe 350-400hp. I was just wondering if the Porsche studs are good for that kind of pressure (considering the older Porsche ones were not!) I've all ready got most of the mods, it's getting all of them installed, tuned and working together that's now taking time. Mods and recon list: Engine redone, crankcase opened, new bearings, chains, rings etc etc Heads Ported/flowed and polished and drilled for twin spark ( for future) Sc cams - I think these were already in - awaiting your opinions as to if I'm correct? Racing headers K27 hybrid Open muffler Greddy elec boost controller( not installed yet) Tial type 47 mm wastegate with .8 bar spring. Still need an adjustable WUR, a decent IC and maybe an AF GAUGE for tuning properly. Oh yes and 16 inch turbo Fuchs mags. I was contemplating taking the Martini stripes off as its a bit flash for me, but they are original order from factory. Any mods I've missed that you guys would suggest? |

Hi Manetino
I have a 1987 911 turbo Now, I am thinking about upgrading the following parts: * Shortneck Intercooler * K27 Hybryd * Headers * Muffler * 0.9 Bar I would like to go with the SC cams, but I am wondering If I need to go with WUR to adjust the fuel / air mix ratio. I dont want to go that far. Thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciate it. |

Nice car! I have a matching martini wheel.
I am with Totle on the cams. Each offers a different benefit. I am working on another turbo motor an got custom grind cams from DRC and web cams can offer the same that are SC intake and 964 exh. I am running efi which may be some thing you want to consider later. Although, there are several stories of cis motors running well over 400 hp. Glad to see you planned for tp already. My 78 has SC cams and I like them very much. Very street able and strong on the upper end. Did you get your crank cross drilled while you had it out? You would have to drill your matched bearing too. I am running arp studs on my 79 motor and know they will be fine. Supertec also has a really nice set but ARP was a little cheaper for my budget.
