hmm. For some reason 5MB does not work.. So a bit smaller now

Engine wiring almost finished. this time I decided not to pack every wire into one protection hose I made a couple of them, each function/area has it's one hose. This way it's much easier to have access when needed. I also go without rubber grommet at the connectors. Each wire has a silicon seal in the connector, that's enough. I prefer this, as it avoids water inclusion, same as the protection hose. Wires are FLYY, which ist modern standard (finer strands and pvc covering) ecxept the SDS injecton sensor and injector wires, those are high quality as well and supplied with SDS injection.

Some more pics
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755031038.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755031038.JPG On most pics there are still a lot of cable ties, which I only used to route the wiring and get an idea of the final position. After I fitted only two (bigger ones) in this area http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755031038.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755031038.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755031038.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755031038.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755031038.JPG |
Because my LH Fiberglass Fan Block-off is quite old and brittle and the RH is still steel I ordered some Sheridans from PP. On the first view, they look quite ok, but when started to fit, they turned out as terrible...
RH needed lot of trimming, but that would be ok, even if I think (as the OEM part fit's really nice and is easy to copy) it could be better from beginning. There are no marks where the mounting holes should be. Also the measurements differ from OEM part, what I cannot understand, no variation needed there. All in all, it's ok, but far away from nice. The biggest issue is that there is way too much epoxy (or polyester) in the inner corners, especially at the lower mounting latch and the inner side of the top bar so you can't get close enough to the engine shroud. about 5mm away. When you tighten the bolts on top, you deform the bar (presses down), so there is alway tension on it (or you leave it loose...) Will post pics, when both are fitted. LH has same issues but more than that, the are several angle errors (guess they took out to early out of mold and it warped while harden. Also radius to fan housing is bad and the inner lower area to fan bas has a huge gap. Too much trimming here. Also the area for the bolt to fan housing at the side is to short, not possible to make a hole but only a slot. Angle issue: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1756815694.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1756815694.JPG Comparison to old FG piece (which fit's 99%): http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1756815763.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1756815763.JPG |
For now, I leave them but will make my own copies with FG myself. As it's quite a bit of effort to make good molds, I'll postpone that...

Some more DIY hollow screws and vent line for Wastegate.
Tial screws vs DIY, Stock line vs DIY and mounted on wastegate http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1760294629.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1760294629.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1760294629.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1760294629.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1760294629.JPG |
POR-15 is the real deal, especially on Italian cars they can be notoriously prone to rust. You've gotta follow the instructions to the letter, though, and make sure the surface is properly neutralized before applying it. My mechanic uses it on all the Italian cars he works on and swears by it. You're doing a great job tackling this project

Some more amazing work!
You are really going all out on the weight savings. Are you getting close to being done? John |

Well the "problem" is, that everytime i made something I see the next part that i can customize or DIY like the vent tube. One done, another ahead:) To answer your question: No not close, but progress is there. Engine is beside some little details almost ready to fit in the car. |
After weeks of removing old paint off the intercooler I found time to paint. Looks quite nice to me
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761570645.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1761570645.JPG It was a big mess to get all the the paint stripper residue from the cooling fins. Multiple bathing in nitrothinner, flush with water and compressed air. Everytime there came some flakes of paint. After about 10 cycles it was done...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...ys/men_ani.gif Then next "issue" was right around the corner: When I bought the fuel lines and fittings at Summitracing, I also bought some alumimum plugs, one for the IC M10x1mm thread... BUT what's wrong with them (the supplier)??? Imperial allen size on a metric thread??? WTF... Now I have to borrow that (in Europe not that common) imperial allen key from somewhere. I am gonna ask on of the muscle car owners here. |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/shake.gif Imperials allen keys are about €10 for a set on Amazon however, even the Amazon basics set is not bad at all. ;) |
To support oil inlet tube I set a Tubtara in the camshaft housing
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763288437.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763288437.JPG Test fit, looks fine. Spacer is will be anodized later http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763288524.JPG |
When I did my EFI conversion many years ago I was working at the Swiss VCE Market Company and had access to a huge parts warehouse. There I took the hoses for fast idle valve routing. Those are quite old now and I was not that happy with the layout and valve (way too big hose diameter).
So I replaced this http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763288945.JPG with this (one side is already machined, as I like it more that way) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763288982.JPG both sides machined http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763289089.JPG |
To avoid issues when a hose needs to replaced by exotic hose, I decided to use OE 964 Turbo setup, but with after market silicon hoses (OE is way to expensive)
Set contains too much hoses as 964 Turbo is still with K-Jetronic, but is still much cheaper than buying single hoses. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763289295.JPG At that time I made also a manifold inlet port due the different hose size. So I had to make another one to fit stock diameter. Removing the old one went fine, just a litte heat and correct choose of tool http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763289582.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763289728.JPG New one http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763289776.JPG Because the valve is not at the same position as stock (and different layout as well) I had to cut the hoses to fit new valve. Also i made the port longer. This way I can use stock hoses if needed. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763289776.JPG And this is the result http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763289920.JPG |
