I've heard of people using GM coil packs quite successfully too.

Serge,
While this is on my 3.6 NA engine and not on my Turbo, the same COPs could be used for both. I am using Toyota coil packs 90919-02246 (from several mid 2000's V6 engines). Cheap on eBay. The standard Toyota seal under the head of the COP is too thick and too big in diameter to suit the 964 rocker covers so I am using a smaller rubber seal to close the gap. I made up a bracket that is fixed to the lower rocker covers to secure the lower coils. The top coils sit in place securely without fixing bolts. These coils will be fired by a 5V ignition signal from Megasquirt MS3X. I have just received parts back from powder-coating so I fitted them together loosely for pics. "Dirty" pics below are of engine pre-assembly before plating and powder-coating. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

No specific thread Serge, just a few threads on different parts of the engine build.
It has been a long-term intermittent project, but the engine is almost ready for assembly. I may pull it all together into one thread eventually in the Tech or Engine forum.

Denso coil on 930 upper and 964 lower valve covers.
An additional rubber seal is needed to fully seal to the upper valve covers. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Couple that with an M&W CDI and you have an extremely powerful ignition system.

Same as Honda CBR coils.(Denso).,you don't need igniter with these combo(Denso & M&W).

I used some AEM COP's and a couple of AEM 8 Channel CDI units. So far they have performed OK and have been trouble free - although no "real" hours on the engine yet. I used 964 valve covers and placed an O-ring on the COP that fits snugly into the opening on the valve covers. They take a fair amount of effort to get off - so I haven't needed any other retainers yet.

Thanks guys. Yes I made the loom myself.
The AEM Twinfire CDI units come prewired with a fair amount of wire and good quality Deutsch plugs. The COP's come with unterminated plugs. The Loom and fittings I brought from Waytek Wire however I don't think they carry it anymore on their on line catalog. The loom and fittings are made in Germany by a company called Schlemmer. They clip together which makes it easy to layout the loom first and then insert the wires to suit. Richard.
