New York City "barn find"
With the help of my brother, TT Surgeon, I finally found a 930. The car is a 1983 grey market 930, 38K miles, with all federalization papers. The car is a 2 owner, imported from Germany in 1984. The second owner took possession about 13 years ago, it has sat in a NYC parking garage ever since then, only driven about a thousand or so miles in that time. The car was basically neglected.
From the ppi and our own inspection it has a few minor oil leaks, needs a new rear speaker shelf, new tires and some minor paint work. The good news is everything works and the car runs strong. Leakdown numbers were 5% or less on all cylinders. The car looks to have an aftermarket exhaust in place (?Borla?). There is also a question as to wether the car was a "special wishes" car, with a 330 HP upgrade. I need to do some more research on this. The VIN doesn't indicate it, but I have learned a lot of the special wishes cars were upgraded after completion so the VIN may not tell the story. Right now the car is in NY waiting to be trucked down to Texas, where Viking Motorsports will take care of it and set things right. Not bad for $20K... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

you got a great deal. It will take very little to make the car pristine. I really love the sunroof delete. c |

Thanks guys! I can't wait to get the car to Texas. Driving the car for the last 2 days in NY was a lot of fun, it's so much more raw, more everything than my 997.
I'm always up for cocktails!

Just post a picture of the intercooler and we can likely tell you if it has the 330hp option. Not sure why anybody would want to swap out the exhaust that came with the 330hp option though...

Sweet find! That exhaust does look like a Borla as it has those intercooled tips. What's the story on the boxed rockers?

The car was given/left to this Dude who kept it in a parking garage on the Upper East Side, a total non car guy who basically neglected the car. His wife was on his case to get rid of the car. I doubt the Special wishes story myself as there is no documentation of anything, nada zip. It is interesting that it was even mentioned...
The rockers came with the car from the original owner, I can't tell if they're stock or aftermarket, I do like the look. Here is a pic of the engine, when I get the car to Houston, I'll go over it with Viking and get much better pics. ![]()

Who knows why people do things, I wonder the same thing now when I see people changing out the stock Titanium exhaust on a new GT2??

The factory boxed rockers have a rubber plug that you remove to insert the jack about a foot or so in front of the rear fenderwell. This car does not appear to have them. |

boxed rockers only came from the factory 87 and later those had the holes for the jack points. I have seen a few of the early slant special wishes cars with boxed rockers and no holes. A lot of the after market boxed rockers dont have the holes also . Thats where the question of it being a special wishes car probably comes from.

That be my slant in the pic.
The car was a great deal, no doubt. I believe in the federalization process, some folks may have been super strict and may have actually removed the bigger IC, but I'm no expert. I believe the car is a 300hp euro car, which has a lot of nice features in it's own right. |

Yep the stock intercooler. I'd just be real surprised that it's the 330hp motor. A few reasons but primarily because of the exhaust and intercooler. It doesn't have the front mount oil cooler either but that would have had to have been changed for federalization (they weren't available in the states). I'd assume that would be a big conversion issue.
No reason for the intercooler as far as I could tell to be switched out and similarly the 330hp exhaust was not something I would think you would need to change for federalization or as a performance upgrade (my guess). I can't tell from the photos but is it a quad tip exhaust (two per side)? Part of the output to 330 is I believe based on both the intercooler and the exhaust. Let us know when you find out...
