Ruf/935 mirrors install?
Posted this in in paintwork discussion area but no action...so I will try here
Hello gentlemen, I would like the bodywork experts opinion/help. I would like to have install RUF/935 mirrors on my 930. I want it done the right way, by way of welding the vacant holes left by the flag mirrors. Can someone give a roundabout as to how much I should expect to spend on the mirror conversion. I called one shop and was told it was going to be around $2.5k. I live in New Jersey, if anyone knows of a qualified shop/shops in the NJ area with an excellent background on this type of mod/add on on Porsche's. Feel free to let me know. Thanks Rey |

Well that depends on the color of your car too. How much do they have to blend to make everything look correct.
There are a lot of variables, more info is needed. |

Paint is in excellent condition..no ding, dents. Of course I would have to take the car to the shop to get a close estimate, just wanted to know if anyone who has had a shop do it can tell me whether the round about figure I was given even realistic. When I get ready to do it, I'm not looking for the cheapest price. I want it done right without giving up my first born..

FWIW those 935 mirrors offer horrible rear vision..blind spots galore..

Not sure what "look" you are going for, but I seem to remember reading the 993 Aero mirrors are a bolt-on, altho' the shape of the base is not the same, if the paint underneath is OK it's gotta' be better than spending $2500 and getting possibly marginal results

I have the Ruf mirrors with convex mirrors and the vis is not too bad
Obviously it is not as good as Flag or Aero mirrors but the answer is just to drive so fast nothing can come up on you from behind! ![]() - My PO filled the holes (badly - starting to crack paint) unfortunately and so I will either have to weld them ($$$$) or I have bought a set of Flag mirrors to go with the car if and when I sell her The Ruf mirrors do look good though! ![]()

i have the 935 style mirrors on my car. correctly positioned vision to the rear is not so bad. but, with a high horsepower car changing lanes quickly can be very dangerous without a quick glance over the right shoulder!it is your decision, but i would question the charge for the bodywork and if the aero mirrors would work, i would use them. be a shame to mismatch the paint even by a little bit on the car.

I had my sprayer mate weld the holes, but at the right, or that could be wrong angle you can see a very light circle where each hole was.
The drivers side mirror was easy to get right but the passenger side took some fiddling to get roght so you can see correctly. Even then you still need to take care when changing lane etc. ![]()

I had them on my car for a few years...they are fine once you get them dialed in. I would suggest that you remove the Flags and cover the holes with red sign vinyl from a sign shop for a while to make sure you can live with the 935's. Just use your current mirror gasket for a template.
I did this as a temp fix and left it that way for the whole time I used the 935's....made going back to flags a painless operation....darn inexpensive also.

the pumpkin is primarily a track car, so I went with a little less elegant solution. I had an extra stock rear stone guard and cut a piece using the gasket from the flag mirrors to cover the holes. Initially thought it would be a temp solution, but on the track car I think it looks ok. Bad picture but you get the idea.
I like the look and on the track the mirrors seem fine. Besides, who need to look behind you on the track........
