Hi guys I am located in South Africa and have jjust recently rebuilt a 1981 930 Turbo. There are a couple of things that I am not happy with. I have rebuilt it original and everything on the car has been replaced or refurbished. A complete nut and bolt rebuild. I have terrible turbo lag, the turbo only comes in at 3500rpm - what can I do to reduce this?
I have had the original 16" Fuchs rims refurbished but would like to get a set of deep dish matbe 17" rims for it. Any ideas??http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1328020462.jpg

Boost spool: Not much if you stick with stock components.

If you're up to upgrades there are better turbos, headers and exhausts which will lower the spool.

I've yet to be able to find out for sure what rim halves are required to accomplish deepest reasonable offset without spacers using Fuchs centers. The wheels I bought don't have the correct offset for stock 930 and I'd like to order the right rim sizes. While yes I can and have done plenty of measuring there's nothing like learning from other's successes and having confirmation of what actually works.

The Kodiaks I have that were made to use on an early turbo with no spacers require 1" spacers on the rear of the widebody SC and none up front. The fronts of an SC are the same a the early fronts of a 930 with the spacer removed. The late 930 front is the same as the early 930 front with the stock spacer mounted.

Shifter 125, those wheels look great. The stance of the car is perfect.

Does anybody here with 3 pc (9 & 8 x 17) Fuchs conversions like mine photo'd above mind advising me what rim halves setups you have? Mine are all wrong for my 930 and would like to know specifics of what others have that work on their 930 (please note if with spacers retained and their thickness).

There is 5.75" of front spacing available on the rear of a 930 with no spacers, and about 6.75" of back spacing. If you are using anything less than an 11.5" wide wheel (which takes up 12.5" of space) the front spacing is all you need to be concerned with in order to push the wheel out so that a tire correctly sized for the wheel will sit flush under the lip of the flair.

Hate to dig up an old thread, but I have a question. I don't know much about wheels, but on an 88 930, would a 25 mm offset on the front and the rear wheels work?

Thanks for the spreadsheet. Now for the questions. So from the chart i'm getting that an 8 inch wheel with a 25mm offset for the front wheels will not work without a spacer, correct? Although a 10 inch wheel with a 25 mm offset for the rears will though, right?

+1 thanks for the spreadsheet. I'm hunting for something that will look good and have tires available for an '85 euro. Love the Zuff but there seems to be some drama involved obtaining in those.

I recently took delivery of these Fikse FM5s. They are spec'd to run without spacers in the rear. I don't have any pics yet of them on the car as I still need to get tires mounted. I would have really liked Zuf Fuchs replicas but was not ready to deal with the delivery issues for that kind of dough. The Fikses took about 10 weeks from ordering to my doorstep. 5 spoke has the right classic look to my eye, and I had them made with anodized finish rather than polished to more closely match the factory look.

Since yours is an '88, the 8" will work without a spacer which the car shouldn't have stock anyway but be in a little. The 10" rear will work with the stock 28mm spacer but will be out a little so you'd need to check fender clearance. I think.

It's always best to check what you have since you can measure your current wheel's backspacing and the clearance inside and out to know which way you need to go.

So it would push the wheel out 12mm more than the stock wheel correct?
