Anyone with deep offset & no spacers?

Just wondering if anyone is running deep offset wheels without the stock spacers? Does this work? Pics of the rims?

Hi Brian, Does the SC take the same offset as 930 without spacers? I was thinking they would look deeper with no spacers on a 930.

Yes, RH copies of the speedline wheel for the '94 3.6 turbo will fit 930 trailing arms with no spacers.
I don't think you can buy them in the right offset to do that though, but maybe.

I bought a set of used 3 piece 18" RH 3.6 wheels in 930 offset that had bent outer rim halfs. The rears were 10" wide and made for runnning with stock 28mm spacers.

Then bought new 1" deeper RH outer rim halfs from Jim Dorociak and rebuilt the wheels myself.
Now the rears are 11" wide and fit good with no spacer with 315/30x18 tires.
The shape of the wheel center has plenty of room for the caliper with no spacer. And plenty of room for the fender and oil lines along the right rear longitudinal.

JFairmann when you remove the factory 930 spacer, where the wheel studs to long to use the factory lug nuts ?

Yes they would be but the alloy lugnuts that were on my car when I got it were hollow on the end so the the stud sticks out the end of the nut.

I cut the origonal studs a little shorter so they wouldn't stick out the wheel holes but not all the way down to the nut. If you ever need to use the spare tire it won't fit over a rear caliper without at least an 18mm spacer underneath so I carry one on top of the spare tire and I left enough length on the rear studs to be able to mount it if i had to.

The Kodiak's on my old red rocket pictured above were made for early 930 with no spacers. The rears fit my '85 930 with no spacers but the fronts do not as the late 930's have wider front spindles.

Jim great comment about the spare tire I never would have thought about that!

I really like not using spacers for many reasons and see no issues with it.

Spacers:

1. Extra weight--particularly the worst kind, unsprung
2. If you need thick enough spacers, then you actually need adapters with extra lugs (or you need to swap out your stock lugs for longer ones, if available). If you use adapters, then those cover up the stock 5 lugs and you can't see the lug nuts holding them...in case those lugs underneath loosen or have other issues.
3. Using spacers to a certain degree puts a longer moment arm on your suspension, which puts different (higher) strain on suspension parts than originally engineered.

Sorry, I guess thats what I was talking about. Taking the stock spacers off and used deeper offset wheels. Is there a down side? Does the front use spacers too? I am talking about later 930s.

Early 930 has spacers on front, later does not. Found that out the hard way, ha!

The reasons I like no spacers is:
> Deeper dish.
> Ability to custom space each wheel 'cause you have long studs.
> Why didn't they just put on wheels that fit?
> Balancing, non-OEM thick spacers can cause balancing issues.
> Hub centric spacers seal themselves to the hub with time becoming difficult to remove.

Just make sure the wheel centers you use leave enough backspacing for the brakes.

Yes, later 930s eliminate the front spacers (but keep the rears).

From whitsh year they dont have a speiser in front?
Mine is a -79 and have 22 mm speiser in front.
And a 28 in rear.

They're Falken Azensis RT 615.
Pretty good tire and I don't know if they still make them.

If you take off the spacers on a 930 you will need to replace the studs to shorter ones by 28mm or have open end ones if you use wheels designed for a wide body 911 or 911SC and try to use on a 930. As Brian@ Rarly8 said "I found out the hard way" and I still have the wheels on the shelf. Was going to see if thay could be used on a race car, to mount rains, etc, however could not find suitable rain tires for the 16 inch rims. They are 8 inch fronts and 11 inch rears
