Porsche Crest New 930 owner - Need fueling solution - what’s the current best?

I bought my first 930 (1987) this fall and it has many engine upgrades;
K27, Andial Racing IC, Turbosmart Pro-Gate 45 waste gate, adjustable boost, B&B headers and exhaust, additional oil cooler, Injector blocks (see engine pic), 911 G50 trans, 964 or SC cams?, claimed 3.4L ?

I did buy it for less than asking as I found from the Leakdown test that the rings are worn (eg. #4 with 100psi going in only held 40psi). So, many great upgrades but nothing to bump up the fueling. I am having the rings replaced this winter and need to come up with a fueling solution to prevent this from happening again.

I have been reading this forum for weeks now and have learned a ton on the many fueling fixes for running lean on the top end. The problem is there are many proposed ways to fix but I can’t find a definite solution that is current. Here are the options on the table:
• BL adjustable WUR and RPM clamp – can this still be purchased?? Website link is now dead.
• DWUR /UTCIS – have read mixed results on this and that they have changed from a stepper motor to an injector? could this be a all in one solution??
• Electronic CIS fueling & BOOST control (Thierry25) – level of knowledge may end up over my head.
• Bitz Racing CIS to EFI - ??

Thoughts / Recommendations / net costs…. please!!

Welcome - need to post more pictures and info on you and your car!!

What makes you think you're going lean? With the mods you've listed you should be fine, particularly if it's a Canadian (ROW) car.

Nice to see another Toronto / S Ontario 930 on here.

60% leakdown is alot.
Should be easy to hear that much leaking with a hose from your ear to the throttle body for intake valve leakage, exhaust for exhaust valve leakage, or oil tank for ring leakage to figure out where it's leaking. If there's no oil in the motor then you can listen at the oil drain plug in the case instead of the oil tank for leakage past the rings.

If it leaking from the exhaust it's the exhaust valve and it's possible theres a chunk of carbon keeping the valve from closing completely. Take it out and drive it hard and see if that fixes it.

I like a regular old compression test too, and it's easier than a leakdown test.

It is definitely the rings as you can hear it though the oil tank.... and I am pretty sure that it is from going lean as the car sputters as you get near 6k rpm.

Any opions on the options I listed in the post??

Thanks.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the forum, hopefully a compression test will come back with better news.
I'd verify your AFR's before making any decisions. The mods you have put a stock WUR on the edge. If you are lean an adjustable unit will do the job. I work with BL to provide modified regulators that are pre-adjusted to meet the needs of the engine if you are interested.

RarlyL8, thanks for that info !!

Some updates, the engine is out of the car and on the stand and starting to find out what is actually on it.

I didnt think the turbo was a Garrett. Anyone know how to read the tag

The intake injector blocks are from:

The intake has an additional injector, but not hook up

And found some additional fueling from a vacuum triggered part....Who knows about this mod ??

Hi Guys,

I too am a Toronto guy with a 930 purchased last March, also with a bit too much leak down.
Turns out mine had a number of broken rings. But the engine had a number of similar upgrades as yours. This winter I am rebuilding to 3.4 the LN Engineering pistons and cylinders and going to fully sequential fuel injection with MegaSquirt and a bunch of parts from Clewett. Also rebuilding the transmisstion with a diff from Guard and closer ration third and fourth gears.

My car is a track rat with a license plate. I would be happy to share my EFI stuff and I know that MegaSquirt is thought to be a bit of an ugly cousin, but it is the system I know.

Where are you Toronto guys? I live in south Mississauga and work west Toronto.

Personally I would remove all that extra injector stuff and set your stock fuel system up to handle the delivery properly to all 6 cylinders.

The top line Garrettt P/N: 714568-5002 matches with GT3582R (Ball bearing)turbocharger. This is a modern Garrett considered by many to be superior to the K27. Certainly the compressor and turbine stages are .

The second line is the date and manufacture location code. I'm away from my files for the year and month letters but M is Mexicali, Mexico.

The lettering looks suspicious.

Hi Dave - mid town for me, Yonge & Lawrence.

Definitely enough Toronto and area 930s for our own local turbopalooza next summer.

Hi Richard,

A local turbopalooza is a good idea. I hope to have mine together by the time the salt is gone and broken in soon after that.

Lots of posts on the DigiWUR, but not very positive so there are better solutions. Seems like the product development was being done post delivery to the detriment of those who purchased and installed it.

Like Brian said unless you want to get into an EFI install you will probably be way better off returning the fueling system to stock, and then going with an adjustable WUR + modified fuel head if you're still going lean.

We suffer from an extreme lack of experienced 930 tuners here. Keep your mods as straightforward as possible so you can take care of yourself and not have to go to so called (self proclaimed) "experts" who will suck cash out of you at a fantastic rate.

Back home. Date code KLM is:
K=2007
L=December
M= Mexicali, Mexico Plant
remaining numbers are randomly assigned.
The stamping doesn't show the consistency normally seen in production units however this being a special aftermarket turbo it was probably all new parts but (re)built- in the Torrance Ca facility before they shutdown.

Engine update..

The compresion rings were cracked in multiple places and the oil rings were seized. It turns out to actually was a 3.4L but the barrels have been oversized passed the spec limits

Maybe I should have stuck with sport bikes
