AFR Gauge and tunable WUR Primer?

I've been reading some of the many threads regarding various AFR gauges and tunable WURs, but I haven't been able to pick up a good overall picture.

I wonder if one of you guys would like to write up a little primer for someone new to this. Pros and cons, equipment needed, how to go about tuning, computer interface hardware and software, etc. I want to look into this for my '86 930.

Perhaps this could be turned into a helpful sticky.

Thanks!

It is very very simple. Choose the AFR gage of choice and become familiar with it. Adjust the mixture screw and note the changes in AFR. Install the adjustable WUR and apply the same principal of adjustment based on AFR and fuel pressure baseline. BL includes thorough instructions with his units, which are copywrite protected. The only other tool needed is a fuel pressure gage.

I'd say if you are just slightly inclined towards working in things like this. And, most importantly, if you are determined, do your homework ( read up on this here on pp), you can do this, just like me and many others earlier on.
The time you spend learning by reading this board is saved out in the engine

For afr gauge, I chose innovate xd-16 along with the lc-1 and a lma-3.
It is prob not the easiest installation, but it has got some nice features to it, and it is easy to update.
RarlyL8 is right about the BL WUR it comes with a comprehensive manual. If you just follow this you'll bee good.

My tips are;
log your work, so you are able to retrace.
Only do one thing at a time, so you are able to see the effect of that specific change.

You'll be fine. Go for it.

Good luck

OK thanks. I ordered an Innovate MTX-L from Amazon, of all places. Brian, I have checked out your website about get the adjustability mod done to the WUR.

One quick question: is there a way to route to the O2 sensor cable from the engine compartment to the interior without drilling a hole?

I ran mine through the tunnel along with my boost hose to my boost gauge. Not easy with many things there to get in the way and piss you off etc... but if you have about 2 hours you'll fish wire or something through and pull it back out from under the shift area. Mounted my AFR gauge in the console with a custom plate. No need to drill. Have fun.

Ok thanks. I used that route for the CHT gauge on my old 356 racer, though I had no qualms about drilling big holes in it.

Yes. below the back seat on the drivers side near the floor and side of car. Imagine if a little kid is in your back seat and where his left heal would hit the carpet. If you lift that carpet there is a rubber plug that you can slice and send a wire through. At least on an '87 it is there.
