Thar she blows (Snorkle style headlight washers)

After a long gestation I finally installed the correct snorkle washers onto my baby.

Here's a shot of the first trial:

Hope noone tries to use them as tow hooks.

Nice work! Do you actually use them, or used them the way they were? I can't can't ever imagine needing them, I remember the guy test them when I bought my car but that was it.

FWIW, I've used mine once or maybe twice in 25 years...

Use them? For what? I cant imagine theyd do a very good job. What sticks to the headlights around here usually requires scrubbing.

I really like the shape of them though, and that the company put these big things in front of the car with a straight face.

Ha! I like your style! I have the same thoughts regarding the rear wiper (which I promptly took off) . . . why would anyone want a rear wiper on a top-of-the-line sports car (belongs on a mini van or station wagon)?!

No option, in 78 it was part of the car.
And BTW work very well, lots of pressure... when you turn them on - at speed - the whole front of the car gets "over sprayed" with it.

The 930 wasn't really considered a sports car. It was a grand touring car and grand tourers had options like these to allow them to be used in any conditions and over long distances. Only a plebeian would get out of the car to clean their headlights by hand.

First time I've ever heard the 930 wasn't considered a sports car.
In stock form I'd call it a luxury sports car with lots of power and dual personalities.

I'd say GT or grand touring car is usually used to decribe a powerful good handling upright sedan with 2 or 4 doors like a BMW or fast Mustang.
Then again I had to google plebeian to find out it means common people and I guess I fall in that catagory with deranged priorities.

My headlight washers work but I've never gotten the car so dirty at night I used them.

Where did you get the washer nozzles? They are NLA. The washer pump is also NLA. One of mine broke (that old platic gets very brittle) so I have an asymmetric washer system now. Never used this or the windshield washer system so I don't even know if it works at all.

Cool.

Those are really for winter driving when the headlights get caked in salty road grime to the point where your headlights are barely giving any light.

Got them by bumping a WTB thread on Parts Wanted for like a year. Someone finally responded, had them in their garage. Luckily they came with the rubber bases. I got the plated steel clips from our host.

Before I installed them I looked into getting them digitally scanned for 3d printing so to enable like minded sickos.

Unfortunately the scanning phone estimate was ~>$250. The 3d printing was estimated at $50/per. If folks got the money together I'd be happy to take them back off and get them scanned. No idea how the printing would turn out.

Part numbers are:
113-955-199-00 clip, need 2
911-628-085-00 left washer nozzle jet
911-628-807-00 left rubber base
911-628-086-00 right washer nozzle jet
911-628-808-00 right rubber base

When I looked I could only find the clips (oh, and I did find a left rubber base in porsche dealer network).

Yes I found that out when I pressed the switch for them after polishing the car once.

I am pretty sure the 930 was a sports car. Porsche's Grand Tourer (GT) was the 928. Either way, I can't think of time I would use these, unless I pointed them the other way as a prank to pedestrians in crosswalks.

Whats the story with the 'snorkel' washers vs the 'barely seeums'? My '79 was a late entry to the US in Dec 79 and has the smaller flush mount version. Interestingly I have a Minerva blue similar to Jwas but I also have sugar scoop headlights similar to zakthor.

True, but if you remember the 928 was supposed to replace the 911\930 as the top model of the range.

As with everything it is debatable but the 930 is a 4 seat car that was typically loaded with heavy luxury options that aren't necessary in a pure sports car. When it competed in Group B endurance races in the early 80's they were in the grand touring class.

In parts listings snorkle washers show from 1974, but I can't find any photos of a 74 that has headlight washers. Maybe a rare option? The snorkle washers are in lots of photos of 1975 carreras. The switch to flush washer occured sometime in 1979.

I think perhaps a lot of owners switched to the newer version as a rejection of '70's fashion trends (keep the car updated? not have the goofy tow hooks?) Or maybe just because they break easily?

Jwas car has had its headlights updated either to the newer edition h5 of later cars (or to Euro h4, I can't tell the difference). Mine has sugar scoops and came with sealed beam bulbs. I switched to a hella h4 kit that fits inside the sugar scoops, you can tell the h4 kit bulbs because they're flat.
