So, this is what a RUF 4R exhaust looks like on the inside......

I could find no information as to what the guts of the old-school 4R looked like, and this confirmed my suspicions. I love the sexy look of my 4R, but I want to gut it out and run basically straight pipes inside the old-school lookin can. I will basically re-use the endcaps. As the project continues, I may be asking some advice from guys like Rarly who have built a few exhausts in their time

hey Groovie..Darin Fister at FD Motorsport will do that for you. It's really not that expensive. I've been meaning to send mine to him..just need to find the time.

Is that so??? Hmmmm, sometimes it's a case of "I CAN do it, but do I have the time to spare?"

I will look into it this week. The biggest thing for me will be having both exits fully functional.

That is a stock 930 muffler with 2 pipes plugged into the passenger's side end.
I'd cut a hole in the middle baffle so the large single pipe has a straight shot to the dual 180's and call it a day.

That is what i figured, they just drilled a hole and (badly) welded another tip on the end of it.

Gut everything out of it and weld it back together. It'll sound good and weigh less without all the steel pipes and baffles rattleing around inside it.

Wow, there's nothing special about what Ruf did there. Also, that center baffle looks like a bad idea. Is the perforated single tube okay as is, or would a longer straight tube be better?

That's why I suggest cutting a hole in the plate to let the large pipe flow into the 2 smaller ones. Keep all the plumbing and it will not be too loud. The restriction on these is the inlet, it is only 2.75", then all the baffles just make it worse.

I wouldn't call it a buzz, more of a boom. The gutted stock mufflers can be very loud. Yours has the quad tips which are the most loud. Sound level enjoyment is very individual so you decide how much baffling to remove.

That's part of Paul's "party kit" - supplements his magnetic, Free Candy sign, buttofcourse!

Same deal with the hammer, and I think I see some rope there, too!

lolzor'z

that's my boy's Air Soft pistol... pretty damn good replica! So much so that my neighbor who hand carves custom 1911 ivory grips bolted that spare set of pearl grips to it - direct bolt up to a replica / toy!

heh... stop. HAMMAHTIME!

I couldn't see a hammer on it so I figured it was a toy one and a lot of the 1911 style air pistols can have real 1911 grips screwed on.
The side looks pretty good though.. there's a pin thats probably fake and the name and serial number are usually engraved on real ones near the trigger and it looks like there is something written there.

It has had the sound deadening material removed. If you look closely the large flame tube deadheads into a baffle and has to re-enter another baffle to get to the dual 180 tube chamber. It's an abomination.

Well, as far as "personal preference" on volume, I run one of your Zorks, and I love that sound, to me it is perfect.
