Source for copper exhaust locknuts

Gents,

I've striking out in finding a supplier of copper locknuts for the muffler and turbo flanges. These are M10 nuts and I'd like to get the ones that have a 14mm head which makes them much easier to get a wrench on in these tight clearance areas.

I can see that Wurth has them, but I haven't found anyone selling them to non-trade shadetree mechanics like me.

Anyone know of a source?

I bought some here but there are surly less expensive sources.

Many shops have an account with Wurth ands a sales person comes by every couple weeks or so and checks the shops stock which saves time for the busy mechanics or shop owner and orders and wurth ships whatever may be running low.

and you gotta watch some of those guys as they go through the shops wurth parts inventory from my experiences... not all of them are honest all the time.

I want to say I got mine here as well, but what about McMaster-Carr?

EDIT: Looked at McMaster-Carr and didn't find them...

McMaster Carr probably has them but do they sell small amounts or do you have to buy a box of them when you only need 4 to hold on the turbo and or 4 to hold on the muffler?

The last 3 posts say to go to VW suppliers for 8x1.25 copper exhaust locknuts but do VW places have 10x1mm copper locking nuts like you asked about? I kinda doubt it.

When I bought 4 of them here they were almost $5 each but they are good German ones that had a Porsche part number on the bag and they ring more than most nuts when they are tapped together so they are very good steel, probably forged.

If you go to a shop that works on turbo 911's they'll probably have them from Wurth.

Plain old 10x1mm nuts that take a 17mm wrench will work.
I use them but I have to use 2 different 17mm thin wall box end wrenches with the 12 points in slightly different positions to tighten or loosen the top one closest to the motor because there is so little room to turn the wrench with the center reflector in place.

You can get the 8mm copper nuts right here for 50 cents each... 11-62-1-711-954-M58
Pelican Parts - Product Information: 11-62-1-711-954-M58

They are not 10x1mm like he needs.. those are 8x1.25mm which are for the exhaust ports and all German cars use those so they're relatively cheap... just google the part number to see that those VW copper nuts are 8mm.

He is asking for these 999-084-002-02-OEM and they are $4.25 each.

edit: previous post was deleted so I had to edit this one so it makes sense...

I'm using regular M10x1.5 locknuts (17mm hex) and bolts sourced from McMasterCarr. Love that place, but they don't have the copper ones. Copper isn't even the important part...I want the 14mm hex because its such a pain to get a 17mm wrench on there. Maybe I just need to buy a thinner walled box-end wrench? I can live with the 17mm nuts, but would really like to have the 14mm ones (for less than $4.25 a piece).

My friend works in the "engineering dept." at Mercedes Benz USA here in NJ...they get Wurth products there and he is going to see if he can get them. I'd like to just buy a box and be set for life.

I'm procuring a box of 60 nuts. At 8 per car (4 for the muffler and 4 for the turbo inlet), that's enough for 10 cars. I'd like to keep a few full sets for my spares stash, but am willing to share some the extras at cost plus shipping to anyone who is interested...sort of a group buy deal. PM me if interested.

I ground down a cheap stubby box end wrench for use with the 17mm steel nuts. Works well.

Harbor Freight has whole sets of snap on copy box end combination wrenches that go on sale for around $7 sometimes.
They're pretty good and great for the price. Good for grinding thinner or bending the handle offset if you want.

They have a curved handle set that may work good for that top nut too.

To rephrase my question, do the turbo/muffler bolts take 8x1.25, 10x1 or 10x1.5... the part I have found is this at $.56 each:

M10x1.50, 10mm Metric european copper exhaust nut, with slit, 14mm wrench size

I have a snappon stubby that works great. Takeoff the valence and heat shield and all 4 are very easy to deal with.

As a follow-up, Bel-Metric shipped my nuts nearly immediately and they appear perfect. I paid $.84 each, plus $7.00 flat rate shipping.

I'm happy.

What were your NUTS doing at Bel-Metric in the first place (wife cut them off and mailed them there)?!

Actually, hiding them from the wife (they were difficult to back, but bubble-wrap seemed to do the trick).
