MSD + Pertronix + Tach; best solution?
Hello all,
I'm just trying to plan out some of the more minor issues with my car that I'm hoping to upgrade/fix/repair in the somwhat near future.. Car is a CIS equipped 1973 911T I want to upgrade from points to Pertronix in the very near future... I see Pelican offers an original and a "II" the II being about 50% more expensive, but purportedly better. Can anyone comment on the difference if it is worth the extra cost? I currently have an old "blue" Perma-Tune that I'm hoping to eventually upgrade to a MSD 6A/L. Is the rev limiting feature redundant with the rev limiting rotor on the dizzy? Or is there any reason to believe the rotor limiting feature is unreliable? I believe my tach currently needs to be rebuilt, it reads ~8-900RPM low. Rebuild is up to $180. If I get an MSD I need an $85 adapter for the stock tach... I can also get an Auto-Meter tach for ~$180 and presumedly not need the adapter. Can anyone confirm this and/or what Auto-Meter tach fits best in the stock dash? MSD recommends to use their coil and Pertronix recommends to use their coil... If I have both MSD and Pertronix unit, what is the preferred coil? Once I do all that, what are the best spark plugs? Thanks! |
