I think it's a conversion, albeit an extensive one, overall a pretty awesome RUF. Honestly, I can't really tell you too much because I fell asleep half way thru the video, man that Dude likes to talk !

Look closer at the motor. It seems to be quite an oddity.

Looks like it was a RUF CIS turbo conversion that was converted to EFI.

It still has the CIS pancake manifold and even the air filter housing which is interesting.

It clearly has a quality set of EFI injectors fitted and the owner says it has a Motronic ECU.

Never seen anything like this in any RUF info.

Also says it has a G50 transmission not a RUF 5 spd in a 1979.

Very curious.

Some more info and pictures. 1979/91 RUF BTR III Motronic

Cool car for sure - but curious about the intercooler. Is that RUF any better than a standard 964 Turbo intercooler? Seems to be thicker but less frontal area. ? And if no AC why not a full bay intercooler??

Perhaps I can provide some insight regarding this car. I was a prospective buyer back in 2007/2008.

It is a 1979 911sc chassis which was worked over by RUF in 1992 IIRC. It's been built to replicate the appearance of a 965 from the outside, yet all components including interior, suspension, brakes, engine, gearbox, and chassis have been converted to resemble a well built up 1989 platform 930 with an engine rated at 405 hp.

The invoice from RUF was long and comprehensive. I had a fellow with me who translated it, page after page, after page.

1979sc donor chassis
rear torsion tube converted to 89 930
G50/50 box and hydraulic pedal assembly
930 trailing arms with late model spring plates
Ruf four piston calipers front and rear
Large two peice rotors and custom hats on all corners. Estimate 13" dia x1.25"
Large sway bars both front and rear. Appear stock in layout but bar diameter is much larger than stock
Large front center mounted oil cooler
Larger than stock torsion bars front and rear
Engine is 3.4 liter displacement with Bosch EFI, RUF invoice rates it at 405hp
930 style intake manifold with two EFI injectors per cylinder on custom injector blocks. RUF fuel rails.
RUF intercooler (similar location to 930, not CTR version)
RUF twin outlet exhaust

930 size flares
1991+ bumper skins, rockers, mirrors, and door handles
964 tail lights
Drip rails removed
Ruf five spoke wheels
H4s or 5s
New interior upon conversion
Matter 6 pt. cage with leather padding to match interior
All ruf instruments with 350km speedo (220 mph), and ruf boost gauge
I recall the owner said he had the factory seats which were too small for him.

Back at the time I posted a thread on rennlist about the car but chose to not go through with purchasing it. It was sort of a duplicate of my 930 I had at the time, though a little more aggressive.

edit: Regarding the comment about the CIS air filter housing, this car has an assembly mounted under the filter housing which necks down to a flex tube connecting to the S pipe. It was strange to look under the filter housing and not see a CIS metering unit.

Based on the addition of the translation, this looks like a very interesting piece of RUF history after all.

Looks like a ground up build off a SC donor chassis.

Unique RUF motor build with Motronic slipped in place of the expected 930 CIS. Motor looks like it could pass visual for a 79 930.

Someone should document that motor build.

Someone should put the wipers back to origonal configuration, they look like crap like that.
The reason left side drive cars have them on the left at rest and right side drive cars have them at rest on the right side is so when you turn them on in the rain the first swipe clears the windsheild for the driver and the driver could scoot off immediatly, especially at the traditional start of LeMans if it's raining. The Porsche engineers had it right.

The reason for the ignition switch on the left side of the steering wheel was so the driver could start the car with one hand and put it in gear with the other hand... also saving precious time at the traditional start of LeMans back when the drivers ran across the starting grid to their cars, hopped in, harnessed up, started it, and took off as fast as they could at the start of the race.

Imho, I think the car would have been worth more if it was stock in appearance. Even better yet, narrow body with BTR spoiler like one the red one.

I found it strange that this car was built in 1992 when the 965 had already been in production. For the money spent a used 1991 965 could have been purchased then have it's motor swapped for the BTR unit. There wouldn't have been any need to do a complete teardown and re-fender the car, secure a turbo 5 spd box, change out the T-bar tube etc etc only to make this car look like a 965. Makes me wonder what the customers motivation was.

I kind of believe that if this is what it seems, it was not marketed very well, is pretty rare, and could be worth a pile.

Not saying it is the most desirable RUF style but is it one of the more unique in several ways.

It is a one off, customer spec, turbo bodied, built on an older VIN, and in my mind -- with a very rare motor build.

Looks like this is the EFI Pressure Sensing, Twin Injector, injection system originally used on the record breaking Yellow Bird CTR. But adapted to the single turbo 930 / pancake manifold and plumbing.

If so, this is probably more rare than the original Yellow Birds abet not as desirable.

Not a big fan of the C2 bumpers or the turbo flairs for that matter, but if it is on the RUF build sheet I do not think I would change it.

Again, it looks like it is based on the following long block and injection system but adapted to the 930 intake:
