Carrera Supercharger installed

Install is complete... here are the details and pics...

'86 Carrera, already had headers, M&K 2in/2out, ARP head bolts, modified cam and chip making 229 HP at the wheels a few years ago on a Dynojet. It is also gutted and fitted with lots of fiberglass for mostly DE duty at 2200 lbs.

Additions...
Vortech V1 A trim supercharger
MSD 6 BTM
AEM wideband A/F ratio gauge
BOV
Boost gauge

I made the supercharger bracket myself by layering 1/4" aluminum plates. It is mounted to the engine carrier and is very stable. The stock AFM is on the suck side. The BOV is plumbed from the pressure side of the supercharger back to the input side after the AFM. I started with a vortech 8:1 FMU, but everything went dead rich 10.0 when the boost kicked in. I pulled the FMU and made a few test drives with just the factory FPR and the stock 24lb/hr fuel injectors and to my surprise it works just fine. The AFM seems to communicate to the ECU just fine up to about 3500 rpm (according to the A/F ratio gauge, 14.0~14.5). At 3500 rpm and above it seems the barn door is full open due to the supercharger, but at the same time the factory FPR reacts to the boost and the A/F ratio gauge indicates about 11.5 ~ 12.0 up to 6000 rpm. I haven't notice any difference turning the MSD timing retard knob, but I hope to get dyno time in the next few weeks to get actual data, but so far things are encouraging. I see the boost gauge getting to 7psi before 6000 rpm so I may change the 3" pulley to 3.25" or look into the boost limiter sold by 928motorsports. I was able to get a 0-60 mph pull of 4.78secs per my AIM solo GPS track timer, a full second faster than before the supercharger. Questions, comments??? Thanks, Dan

That intake in the cabin must sound sweet, my old supercharged lighting used to suck air like mad when I jumped on it. Any hp and tq numbers now after install?

Trying to schedule dyno time soon, no numbers yet.

Air filter "breathing" sounds nice, supercharger "chirping" is a little annoying, but probably won't notice it much with helmet on!

Total cost for parts (drum roll..........) $1650

Nice clean install, looks great. 4.78 is quick and I imagine that is without killing the 915. If the charge is cool enough you can go to 10psi. Good work and pricing, maybe you could share the mount drawings with those wanting to mount a supercharger, has been a few lately.

If you have all the main components, fabrication skills and a good local hardware store, it's a 3 day job.

Good to see some SC installs after all the boring turbo installs. "A" trim, the one that started it all! It's great to just regulate fueling with either a FMU or how I think you did of using the boost signal only to enrichen the FPR. BTW Protomotive uses ~4:1 ratio for rising rate if that helps, but it sounds you are just fine.

I bet the torque down low is pretty good.

Congratulations! Very important to check the AFRs as you have done. Do you have a tail? Did you have to cut the deck lid?

Can I ask how did you modify the crank pulley for the supercharger belt, and maybe some more belt details in general?

Nicely done and well thought out. This is something I have always wanted to do to a 3.2 or 3.6.
I, and others, would love to see a few more pics of your setup, so don't be shy about posting some more details.

I'd like to add that a braided line for the oil squirter would look a lot better.

No change to the crank pulley was required because I am using the same type V belt that the AC compressor used to use. So far no belt slipping that I can detect.

Very nice install, and inexpensive! I would love to do this to my 84 Cab at some point. Nice work.

Very nicely done! Just a thought, you might consider replacing the rubber intake 90 in the future with one that can hold up to boost...my 3.2 piece blew out after a few weeks in a turbo application

That's true. Mine blew out too so I moved to a silicone piece.
